Happenings with Honey

Hello fellow beardie enthusiasts! I've decided to start documenting the progression of my beardie Poppy. I just got her 45 gallon breeder tank today and started setting things up. Currently she lives with a friend of mine with his baby beardie until I get my cage temperatures perfected and the space clean and comfy for her. I'm missing things for her set up still but I'm buying things little by little! I figured setting up a tank is as important as the lizard itself, so it'll be the start to my documentation of her life.

April 29, 2014 - Got 45 gallon breeder tank, began furnishing.

Her hide is stuffed with newspaper strips so she can burrow in for the night and be cozy.

So I have been training Poppy to do a really simple trick that I had taught to birds when I was younger. Basically it's just her laying on her back calmly but it takes some time to get her that way. I think it's a neat little thing for her to do! Don't worry though, she's not in any pain or dead or anything! I had a few people freak out at this already, heh.

Wow. Yeah that would freak me out too. They don't usually like being on their backs because it seems to cause breathing issues and panic. Poppy is OK with that? How long does she stay like that? She looks very calm and content in the photo.

She seems okay with it and I only do it for a minute or so. She kinda goes into a trance like state and eventually snaps out of it to flip herself over. She does breath a little heavy but I assume that's because it's a weird position for her. Right after she flips over she's all good, even licks me sometimes.

Huh, Strange. One of the vets did something like that to coop before he had tests done and it put him into a trance. Not sure what she did exactly but this reminds me of it. Interesting stuff.

I've decided she's less of a Poppy and more of a Honey. I really like that name with her deep amber and gold colors. Especially with her eyes. More pictures coming soon! I added more plants for her to hide in and got rid of her food bowl since she couldn't see the food inside it. Also she had her first adventure outside today! She was so scared at first then started relaxing and running around in the grass, gosh is she fast!

Here's the newly renamed, Honey. Figured I'd show the picture that inspired her name. Her amber, gold tones really do match her new name perfectly. Not to mention she's sweet and sticks to me all day long. Hehehehe..

Just an update on her health and size. She's currently 60 grams and 10.5 inches. I'm guessing she's around 4 months or so given her length and weight. Her colors really boosted up from her vitamin rich diet, she's in shed right now and still pretty bright. I'm excited to show her off after her shed. One little issue though, she had a boo-boo on her tail and lost scales where it was after it healed. The skin looks healthy and appears to be slowly growing new scales so it shouldn't be a problem I think. I'll get pictures of it later today to see what you guys think. I'm also keeping a health log for her! It contains information on her live meals, baths, sheds, length and weight.

There ya have it, the weird little bit where she's missing scales seems healthy and fine though. Still like second opinions.

Dragons do not have a diaphragm; therefore they cannot breathe while on their backs. That might explain the behavior you are seeing. The vet probably put him on his back, Cooper, to test he ability to right himself.

Just a short story.. apparently my girl loves lucky charms marshmellows. She just climbed in my bowl and gobbled one.. that's all she gets. But man did she look happy after.

She is a good looking dragon.
The photo with Honey on her back reminds me of someone in a therapy session talking to a shrink about all of their problems.

Once she gets bigger you might want to keep an eye on the blanket in her hide. Because my dragon started digging to get comfortable for bed and ended up with some fuzzes on her nails.

I bet she would tell me her problems if she could! And I got super lucky with her, bought her from a pet store. And she already diggies when she is sleepy, in blankets, my hair, my shirt, the kitty cat, and the back of my neck. I groom and inspect her daily so no worries with fuzzies!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
