Handling Issues

Hello guys

I got a bearded dragon who i think is around 18 months now as he starting to have his horny moments, His name is Archie and i have posted up an image below of him

I brought him from a UK shop called 'Pets at Home' as my previous beardy (Bert) passed away from being 11 years old. Archie got everything in his cage which he loves, a high branch for him to act like a king, daily food mixture of worms and vegs.

Bert who passed away was the most friendly lizzard i had and daily he loved being picked up and sat there watching me work in my office. Archie is the same when he watches me all the time but i having some serious problems with him.

I can't even go near the glass without him jumping and attack me, same with the food bowl and water bowl. He just attacks me every single time. I tried to stroke him but still he bites and doesn't gives up. He just attacks everyone who goes near the glass even myself. I tried to rub my hand in his sand to give him the scent that i not here to hurt him. Tried wearing gloves as his bites gives me blood blisters. Nothing is not working. I even put worms on my hand and he takes the worm and backs off. I dealt with beardies for over 13 years now and i never came across one like my Archie

I tried everything and he doesn't seems to be getting any friendlier at all which is starting to upset me as he is such a cutie lizzard!

Any advice as i tried for months now to tame him

At this point, you might just have to use gloves and show him who is boss. I'd grab him and hold him tight, stroke his head, pat his back, any and all kinds of touching all over his body. Don't let him go if he struggles, he has to learn he isn't the king of the house.
Only place him back in his cage once he has settled down and starts to tolerate your touch. He may never tame completely down but he should never try to attack like that.

Gail, i have tried wearing gloves and he struggles so badly and i can't hold him as he over stress himself. I tried wearing gloves for over 3 weeks and he won't have it

How are the temps on the hot and cold side of the cage? How is his appetite? I'm having the same experience with a baby beardie who is much younger than yours and I don't know what to do either. Try putting a warm, dry wash cloth with your scent on it, on his sleeping side of the cage at night. Maybe he will get used to you that way.

When we first got Lucky { Lucky to be alive }, I had to used a towel to wrap her in and she was a hand full, watch out for the tail and yes they do bite!
With Spazz we got her when she was 2 inchs, but Lucky was 21 inchs and P O ed as she was raised with 2 kids, a dog and 2 cats in an 18 x 18 inch viv with no hiding place.
But all of it was worth it, she loves to watch tv on my chest,shoulder and car rides and running to living room.

Hello guys. Today was a strange day! I decided to let Archie come out and run about as i just sorted my room out so he wanted to look around and see whats new. He was out for nearly a hour and loved it then he allowed me to hold for 30 minutes and fell asleep!

here is a photo of him in my hand (ps his cage just been cleared up as he makes such a mess)

He was so happy and i think he likes to go for a run before i pick him up which is strange but he loves it!
