Handling beardies

How come when most people order a beardie they are usually calm and chill and let you hold them even if its your first time seeing them? But my beardie which I got on Saturday at my local reptile store stays on my hand for a limited time, also when I try to pick her up she sometimes is squirmy and runs away? But she is getting better now. I am just wondering why some adjust in the blink of an eye to a person. Am I doing something wrong?

Well, when shipped they are cramped up for a while and are slightly out of it when they are finally reoppened up to the world.

A lot of times, the babies will still be jumpy but adults are much more calm.

You just gotta keep working at it :)

How old is she? A lot of babies are squirmy. When I got Wave, she was much more interested in exploring than sticking with me. I used to take her into the bathroom - beardie-proof - for playtime. Now, four months later, she's chilled out a lot - a nap on my shoulder is her preferred way of spending out-of-cage time. If your beardie is young, she probably just wants to see the world. Give her time. :)

That is a great way of thinking about it!

Thanks! Made it a little easier to not get frustrated to think of it that way. Reminded me of my rats, when they were young. Always exploring!

Yea she is 8 inches so im guessing she is 2 months ish, im getting a confirmation for that lol. Should I be persistent and try and hold her everyday until she is used to me? Or should I just leave her be for (how many days or weeks)?

If you got her less than a week ago, I'd say wait a week before you start handling her.

If its been more than a week you can start handling her. The key is consistency.

Ok ill just let her be for the week thanks!

yea, young beardies go through a culture shock and have to take a little bit to get adjusted to their new home. she will get accustomed to you handling her very soon. like others have said, the more consistent you are, the more your dragon will attach to you.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
