Grrrr neighbors

We had new neighbors move in next door to us. One of the guys has a beardie. First thing he asks is do you want to mate them. I'm like not really. He said come on it'd make us a lot of money. I said no thanks. Then when we moved Lily downstairs, we put her against a wall instead of the window. The neighbor says they are so much more fun in the window. His is in the window with just a red light. He thinks the beardie is getting UV light that way. He refuses to listen to advice but loves to dish it out. He keeps telling me I'm raising Lily wrong. :roll: His is 2 or 3 years old and way smaller than Lily, who is just a year old. I just hate people who try to tell me how to raise a beardie, just because they have one. He's also one who thinks he is raising his beardie perfectly and doesn't need any help.

I can understand your frustration with someone so ignorant. You should try to mention to your neighbor somehow that UVB does not go through window glass. Unless the glass has a UV block coating then UVA is the only thing his poor beardie is getting.

Don't take offense to their ignorance just bombard them with questions that they obviously won't have the answer to. It might get them thinking.

You might want to explain to him the cost of raising 20 to 30 babies that eat 60 crickets a day for 6 weeks.

I will try asking him "billions" of questions, but so far he hardly appears outside of his apartment. His roommate seems more understanding and I'm sure if I mention something to him, he will pass it on to the other one. As far as the breeding goes, I told him to find someone else because the cost alone to get them to the selling point is expensive. The only reason he wants to sell the babies is to make $50 per baby and sell them to PetCo.

As far as the sunlight UV light...I don't think it's getting anything special except plain ol' light. All I know is he gets meal worms and turnip greens and that's it. The landlords installed new windows that have the tint on them. I'm going to recommend this site to them. But then again he's one stubborn neighbor. After all he made fun of me for my 4'x2'x2 tank for Lily, also she doesn't need the calcium and vitamin powders, or the reptisun 10.0 light. :roll: So I guess I'm a "bad" beardie mom. :wink: :lol:

Wow the guy sounds incredibly special.

Maybe we need to plan covert rescue operation. I'll bring the flashlights and black hoods, If someone can provide the theme song for mission impossible.

Just an FYI about Petco they won't buy them. They buy soley from Sandfire Dragons Ranch. Plus if they could buy from anyone esle they'd probably only pay about $15 ea.

I suggest recommending him to this site and sending him links to caresheets from named breeders and see what he says then. Ask him how long he's had beardies and tell him there are vets and breeders who've been in the bus for -years- that would agree with you. Keep us updated and let us know if his mind changes at all!

I was talking to him tonight. He was bugging me when I was outside grilling. I told him about the caresheets, etc. He :roll: got and went back inside. Guess he doesn't like it when people do things differently from him. :dontknow: Then again he is a little on the cuckoo side. I don't like him, his roomie is a big sweetie, but he isn't. :lol:

Argh! Sounds like he's a pretty arrogant guy. Maybe if he could see the differences in beardies he'd realize which one is healthier. Has he explained why he thinks what he's doing is right? Has he raised other reptiles, is he getting advice from a bad source? What about a vet? Maybe try at it from his roomies side. Maybe he'd be able to talk some sense into the guy.

I believe this is his first beardie. I think he is probably getting advice from his 14 year old son. He wanted to see mine and mine is twice his size and 2 years younger. He actually thought I was over feeding her. So I :roll: then gave him the number to my reptile vet (which I doubt he will use).

And those type of neighbors is exactly why I don't talk to my neighbors and if they annoy me I call the cops :lol: Or get them kicked out (only had to do it 3 times so far)

Haha if he persists in thinking he's doing everything right and you're not then appeal to his sense of pride and arrogance - Challenge him to prove you wrong with documentation or official sources saying his way is right and yours is not. :twisted:

what a butthead! arrogant people like that irritate the crud out of me! Unfortunatley you usually can not change their thought process because it doesn't matter what you say, they're right. You could tell them the sky was Blue and they'd argue that it was green! Just remember that you're doing right by your beardie and if he asks give him your knowledge, it's then up to him to use it or not. it's to bad too because the only one that is suffering is his beardie!

If you DO decide to do some covert ops, let me know.... i've done a few for some dogs in need! hehehehehehe 8)

:lol: That's why the previous people in that apartment no longer live there. *whistles innocently* I don't like any of the people in the other 3 apartments. One thinks she owns the place because she has lived in the complex for 3 years. :roll:
