Part 1- Grendel's Story

My husband and I are the slaves to Yoshi and Aurora. Never in a million years would we have thought we would have 3 beardies at the same time. But we do :D So as you can tell from the title, we have chosen the name Grendel. This name was chosen because of his size, but not because of his personality. He is a big dragon, but has such a sweet personality. Ok, well, unless you wake him up that is. lol So here is the story about this sweet beardie came into our lives.
On day, at the end of May, my husband was coming home from work and had to stop at the local pet store to get crickets. When he came home, he told me that the coming weekend, he wanted to show me a beardie that was there. So that Saturday, which was June 2nd, we had to stop in for more crickets and he showed me the beardie. My first reaction was that he was huge! The pet store owner said that they got him from a breeder in Florida. He was going through some major relocation stress because of flying. They had him in a 30g tank and he could barely move around. They said they tried feeding him some lettuce, crickets and mealworms. Which my husband and I promptly told them that the mealies weren't good for beardies. My husband decided to ask if he could hold him the beardie just sat calm on his shoulder and snuggled into him. It almost looks like he's telling my husband, "Please take me home."

So after that day, we went on with things. But one day we started talking about, "If he was here we would give him a good home." And discussed everything. June 7th rolled around and we decided to go visit this beardie. My husband asked the woman if there was some way we could make a deal to lower his price or get the cage with him, which basically we would have only saved a bout $20. So we went home and started trying to figure out how we could get the things for this beardie, and somehow the fates were on our side. So on June 9th, we went in and asked the lady if they could hold him until June 15th. They said that they normally don't put holds, but they would for us. They said it seems like we are really interested in this beardie. The next day, June 10th, was the day of the reptile expo which we were going to. We went there and ended up getting some good deals on the viv, dishes, heat light, dome, crickets and some feeders. We had the thermometers already. While we were at the reptile show, we decided that we could not wait until the 15th to get him. So on our way to the pet store we went. When we got there, to our shock his cage was empty! We panicked at first, but one of the women there told us that her dad had borrowed Grendel for a party and that he would be bringing him back. So after about half an hour someone brought Grendel back and we brought him home.
The only things that we didn't have for him was a cave and his Reptisun, which he only had a few days without either of those. His eating is slowly improving and now that he got his uvb, he's definitely more active. This past Thursday we gave him a bath and he actually drank from his bath water.
We don't know his exact age or his morph, just that he's male. He has as sweet calm personality, but does not like to be woken up.
Since Grendel's story was a bit long, I'm going to post his pics in the next post and then after that, please feel free to comment. We look forward sharing as Grendel's story progresses. :)

Grendel is doing well. The weather has been really nice the past few days, so every morning when the sun is out, he runs around his viv for hours. He has found his favorite hiding spot. On the nights we get him out, after a few minutes, he will go over to the entertainment center and climb in the cubby hole where we keep out gaming consoles. He must really like the warmth, because he pretty much stays there until we move him for snuggles. A few days ago we gave him a bath and he was really enjoying drinking his water. He is the only one of our beardies who does that too.
Anyway, here are a few pictures of Grendel. :)

Grendel is doing good. He hasn't brumated at all. He is actually pretty active and curious. We have this little bell on a string that he loves to chase after as we move it around the floor. About 2 weeks ago he went through a body shed.

That's all for now. But hopefully I can post some pics of him within the next few weeks.

Grendel is doing well. He likes to look at the TV but he likes regular shows instead of cartoons. When we first got him, he didn't show interest in the reptiworms, but now he actually eats them. He likes crickets and every once in awhile he likes to go after them. Grendel seems to be showing interest in Aurora. But it's confusing because he will save and bob at her.
Now here are some pics.

Can I go on the computer?

Some black and white pics

A few months ago I started learning crochet. So I decided what better way to get some practice than to make the beardies their very own blankies. Because of the type of yarn this is made from, we do not put them in the beardies vivs. They are only used outside of viv when spending time with us on cool nights.
Here is Grendel's blankie.

We've been wanting to get the beardies a harness for awhile and finally did. We found them on beardeddragon.co and I think made by OgleRPets. Because of the weight listed, we decided to get one for now because all of our beardies would be able to use it. Grendel did pretty good when we put it on him.

It has been awhile since I have posted any updates on Grendel and our other beardies. I'm got a chance to go to the library today so I thought I would at least post an update. I will have to wait to post some pics,

Grendel is doing good. As of June 10th we've had him for a year already. I can't believe how fast time has gone. He just has such a laid back personality. And he is the most active out of all 3 of our beardies. Over the past few months, he seems to have taken interest in Aurora.

So I've got kind of a funny story, something I'm not sure anyone else with beardies has experienced before. My husband and I were in our room a few mornings ago. We heard Grendel running around his viv like he does every morning. All of a sudden it gets quiet and my husband tells me to look over at Grendel. Grendel was actually standing up on his back legs with no support, not even leaning against the viv wall. He was just standing there looking at us and he stood there for about a minute or so. I wish I could have gotten a picture. LOL

I am finally able to post an update on Grendel. He is still active and doing well. One day I was upset and crying. I was sitting by Grendel's viv and he just looked at me and did his head tilt as if to say, "It will be ok mommy." It melted my heart. Here are some pics...

Yesterday I gave Grendel a bath. Afterward, we had a mini photoshoot. :)
In some of the pics, Grendel is giving Gape-y smiles because he seems to get warm easily. So he doesn't stay under a towel too long. Hope you enjoy the pics.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
