Greens

I was just wondering if it was ok to just get normal greens from the grocery store. Also is it ok to get the bagged salad to feed them as long as I put in other greens that are missing from the bag? Another thing is it bad if I don’t feed my beardie cactus stuff, I keep seeing prickly pear cactus on lists for feeding and I have no idea where to get it.

Most salad mixes are mostly iceberg, romaine, or spinach, none of which are recommend. You can find collard, mustard, dandelion greens, kale, acorn or butternut squash, and a lot of other good staple veggies at almost any grocery store.

Our local Walmart now carries a bag of mixed collard and turnip greens - already cut up (though they still need to be diced a bit further for beardie needs). So if they've got something like that, certainly, go for it. But as tempusfugit said, many times, it's mostly lettuce in those mixes - I know they disappointed me, too, because I was hoping it might be that easy! :wink: Greens tend to be really cheap, however, so it shouldn't be too awful to have to buy them separately.

Even if buying them bagged and pre-cut, I would still wash them well, though - with the assumption being that you're going to boil them before eating them, I don't trust them to be clean enough right out of the bag.

And as far as cactus goes? Never seen it, never fed it.
