Ok I just made my first online transation from Great Lakes Hornworms. I ordered 1000 large 2' superworms, 1000 mealworms and 25 small hornworms. My Buddie is on a diet mostly of medium-large crickets 40-50 a day and a salad of carrots, very little celery, roman, and cucumbers. He loves carrots but it doesn't seem he digestes them all the way :( So I hope he likes the new treats I got him. He had mealworms before but only as a treat because they cost too much at the pet store. O Ya, has anyone delt with Great Lakes Hornworms before? Are they any good?

GreatLakes are great to deal with. However I have a question - what is the size of your beardie? Supers aren't really good for them until they've reached about 16" from tip of nose to tip of tail. Mealworms - no nutritional value at all so that was probably a waste of $$$ when there are far better feeders out there.

Also - ditch the romaine lettuce - it also has NO NUTRITIONAL value to it. Again, the cucumbers have no nutrional value either. Carrots should only be fed on occasion. Get him some Collard Greens, Mustard Greens, etc - those are really good. Here is link to Nutritional Value and what's good to feed http://www.beautifuldragons.503xtreme.com/Nutrition.html

Hi, thanks for your reply. I just measured him acouple days ago and he was just over 17in and 217grms. So I hope he can handle the supers. As for the mealies my local pet shop sells them 50 for $5 and I just got 1000 for $7, so i was like wow thats a bargin. I read all the bad things about the mealies so i just used them as a treat (1 or 2 mealies a day). I think he loves the way they crunch. As for the greens I will try to change it asap, I was just using what was available to me. Thank You

You really don't want to be using Mealworms at all - there isn't ANY nutritional value and on the nutritional page it's listed that they should be fed "rarely". Maybe you could find someone to sell them to where mealworms are ok. Or even donate them to a petstore or someplace.

I have to agree about the mealworms. They're difficult to digest and lacking in nutritional content. Really no reason to feed them to your beardie. Besides, once he tastes the supers and hornworms he won't want anything to do with them

Just received 1000 superworms from them today....all dead :( Sent them an email, hope they refund or send me new ones. I was at home when UPS dropped off, so they didn't sit out in the heat all day.

UGH!!!

I've been ordering from greatlakes for a while now... but when i read your post it seemed to me like you had several dragons!!! you ordered quite a lot of food... i was feeding my beardie supers until they became a real hassle for me and of course my beardie grew tired of them... my beardie is a year and 4 months old and he is 20in long and weights 450grs... and i think large supers are too big for him!! haha even the mediums ones are hugee!!! i hope your little guy can handle them!!! he's definetely going to like hornworms... they might seem small when you first get them but they grow very quickly... within days they will be very big... becareful with the supers as they like to run around freely through your house... i always found supers all over the place!!! and i kept them in a rubbermaid with a lid!! somehow they found a way to escape!! #1 reason i dont feed Charlie supers anymore... they also get stinky real fast!!! I only feed him hornworms now... that is until he grows tired of them as well... he's a brat!! and will go on hunger strikes if necessary to get his menu changed!! i guess i'll do silk worms next! haha your beardie is very cute btw!! good luck!!

How deep is your bin you kept your supers in? I've had supers for over a week now and haven't had any escapes. They can't crawl up the sides of the bin. It was the same bin I used to keep crickets in so it's a deep one. I was doing hornworms as a staple but wasn't sure if they were good as a staple, plus they were growing so darn fast that he could only eat so many at a time, I ended up having to donate close to 60 of them. (they were the size of my finger and FAT).

I just got an order of 1000 2 inch supers from them. The are all alive and healthy. Even though the UPS guy dropped the box twice when he was bring it out of the truck :angry5:

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
