It finally warmed up enough to get my two Northern blue tongue skinks. They've been here for 2 days now and I love them tons already. They are so mellow and pretty.

This is Cyanide, the boy. He is the mellowest and very curious. He also likes to eat.

I have more pics of them eating snails for the first time, I'll get them posted tomorrow.

GAIL!! They are so gorgeous! OMG. They look a little fatter than my Buzzy and I've been working to fatten him up a bit. Guess I need to work a little harder! I like how you have the piece of tile for the water bowl to go on. That's a great idea and I'll have to copy you. :D

Northerns are plumper then Mareuke's, buzzy will naturally look thinner. I think he is a perfect weight, don't want him too fat  The tile has 2" plastic PVC pipe legs glued underneither to create a extra hiding spot. It works great and both mine like to sleep under the tile.

OH! I didn't know they all had different 'plumpness' - I feel like Buzzy looks good but then I see pictures of fatter skinks so I wonder if I am doing things right. Buzzy sure does like to eat, but I've been keeping to the twice a week schedule.

What did you use to glue the PVC to the tile...? What kind of glue? I think that's such a great idea that I am going to do that for Buzzy. He would love to hide under there.

LMAO @ Cyanide and Happiness. I don't think anyone else picked up on that.

LOL, no I didn't pick up on that. I'm pretty ignorant of internet funny memes that things. Oooops.

You can blame my daughter for the names. I was going for Cyanide and Ricin but she insisted on happiness instead. Shanny, you should look up Centralian blueys, they are so plump they look like over stuffed sausages.

I just used 100% pure silicone to glue the legs on. It sets fast and is ready the next day.

Gorgeous!!! And, gosh, thanks for reminding me how bad I need a Northern Bluey... Lol. There's been a couple times I've almost caved on cute (but probably WC) Indonesians (I believe is the proper term) on CL and the like, but gotta stay strong! Gotta have a Northern! Now excuse me as I mop up this puddle of drool that mysteriously appeared while I was viewing your pictures... :D

And, I LOVE that tile idea!! Definitely keeping it in mind for when I finally get my skink. Might even steal it and adapt it for my beardie... He needs a basking spot/hide combo that's easier to clean than his darn half log (because he always manages to miss the slate leaned on its side, and poop down the very hard to clean side of the log)...

(And I did catch on to the theme, lol--love Cyanide & Happiness!

Do you have a recent pic of Buzzy? Was trying to find one, but can't.

I knew he was a Merauke the minute I looked at his first pic this evening, but I aw you already got your ID. (he looks just like Simon's "Bad Bob". (He's not bad, his name is to go with Rex, (Yemen Chameleon) Vince (Tokay Gecko) and Wendy.... (ghost corn, no longer with us - sold, not died)))

Bob showed off his GORGEOUS dark salmon underside after shedding tonight. Simon keeps him on a mixture of sterile topsoil and orchid bark, (easier to maintain humidity) about 3-4 inches deep, he absolutely loves it! :) only problem is he's always dirty from all the digging he does! Lol

Don't know if it's just me, but their "weedy, useless looking" legs always seem like they were an afterthought, and don't quite work as good as they should? Heheh

Ok, BTS lovers, I REALLY need your help! Which lizard is more cuddely? I LOVE my BD Myah, but I was thinking of getting a BTS as well because the one at the local shop is always try'n to crawl under my shirt. I'll just sit there in the middle of the floor and hold him! Opinions?

We've had our northern bluey for a bit over 8 years and our beardie for a bit over a year. Raisele, our blue-tongue, is certainly more placid, slow and more soothing to pet (nice and smooth!) but Shayvele, our beardie, is a lot more interactive and engages with us a lot more. I think blue-tongue husbandry is a bit easier, too. We love both of them but they're quite different temperaments. We've also got 2 little southern angle-headed dragon babies but it's still a bit early to work out their personalities. They're amazingly cute, though!

One blue-tongue advantage: snails are free, crickets aren't.

Hmmm.... I just don't know. :? What about a BTS's messes? Are they easy to find and clean? I wouldn't want he/she getting covered in it due to loose bedding. Sigh, this is so hard. I want a baby who will just sit with me or on me. Opinions? Oh, and the pics are beautiful :D I got so caught up that I forgot to tell you how lovely your babies are and how much I'd love to see more pics. You're very blessed

Hi, again--

Blue tongues are less fussy about pooing than beardies--we use Kritter's Crumble in Raisele's enclosure and it's really absorbent; her poo gets dried out quickly and is easy to take out and she then doesn't crawl through it like she did when we just used newspaper. She's much more deliberate eating than Shayvele, our beardie is--Raisele seems to carefully contemplate each morsel instead of just snapping it up, so there's less chance of her eating the substrate. I'd upload a pic of her and her "arrival day cake" if I could see how to do it here. And she's generally easy to just sit with--blue tongues are a lot slower than beardies. If you really want a low-speed lizard, look for a stumpy-tail. Not as nice to sit and pet, though.

Hope that helps!

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
