I am going on holidays for a few days ( Yay for me, finaly :mrgreen: ). Everything great soo far, exept for a few 1000s of animals at my home.
I am not worried about my beardos. They dont drink water at all in here, they seem to get all the moisture from food. And as goes for food, there has been a period of 2 weeks ( and they werent winter sleeping ) when they didnt touch food at all, then all of the sudden they went to eating carnage again. Soo since they are part desert animals, a deep bowl of water and some vegs ( and maybe some dried roaches ) will be enough.
I also have mealworms who are known to complete cycle egg - bettle without a drop of water. Soo i will simply put a bit bigger piece of potato in there soo they can get moisture while i am gone.
But here the fun ends.....
Basicly online i saw some ppl only give their animals fresh vegs like every 2 or 3 days. Not the case with me. I give them fresh vegs everyday. Soo i am afraid they are a bit spoiled.
I am most worried about my blaptica dubias and superworms - those guys even more since i spent about 1 year or more of trial and error before i finaly got my system going. I would hate to see them die now. Same with dubias. I probably have a few 1000s dubias now, about 200 adults (1-5 male female ), tons of nymphs that are almoast adults and unspeakable amount of smaller nymphs.
I do not have water vel at home and no way of getting one before i go to holidays. Soo here is my question ( or better said, questions ).
1) How long can blaptica dubia roaches, superworms and superworm bettles go on without moisture ?
2) Will it be ok if i put like 2 potatos in each box and make a small hole in it ? I was hoping they will slowly munch on it and go deeper and deeper but at the same time since they will constantly eat it, potato wont dry and make hard layer that they wont be able to chew thru ?
A bit less importaint but anyway, i also have 10 rats, 2 adults ( male, female ) and 8 small ones, about 1 month old. How long can they go on without water ? For them i will simply put inside a few potatoes or maybe apples and a huge bowl of water ( gotta make sure its safe for young ones though, soo they wont drown ).
When asking about how long they can go without water i am not asking for period that is comfortable for them but period that they can survive. As for human, comfortable is drinking every 2-3 hours, you can survive a few days. I am sorry i will have to stress them since i spend lots of time and love for them and its kind of my hobby that i enjoi doing, but there simply is no other way.
And one really really last question. I was also thinking of adding a bottle of water on top of each box containing animals and block the hole and instead make 1 tiny tiny one. Soo there would be water dropping out of bottle into a bowl. Hmm, not sure how this would work.
Anyway, any suggestions are welcome. And please remind me again to buy water gel when i get back from holidays soo i am not going thru this ever again...Wonder if it will be good holidays anyway, being stressed every day about how my animals are doing...
