Going out of town...what can I do?

Hello Bearded Dragon experts...I am leaving to go out of town to Las Vegas for a few days (4 days). Any advice on taking my 3 month old beardie with me? I don't have anyone that I trust to take care of him, so I plan on taking him with me. I need advice and if anyone has ever traveled with their beardie before I would love to hear what you have done in the same situation.

Hi Christine,

Traveling with a baby is going to be difficult. And, more than likely, if you get caught at your hotel with a pet, you will be kicked out, or fined.

That being said, if you are driving, then it should be simple enough to bring along a 10g tank or so and the proper lighting arrangement to keep him comfortable for the few days.

I personally would rather have someone I know come to the house and take care of him for a few minutes each day. A very very strict guideline of rules and what to dos would be given to the person, and I'd trust them to follow them.

IMO, trying to travel with a creature that really needs quite a few things to stay content, is quite a bit of trouble.

AGH! I never thought about the consequences of bringing him along in a hotel! oops! I need to start looking for someone that I c an trust to come over twice a day to feed him...wish I had some phoenix worms instead of crickets. Thanks Brandon for the advice...I am going to miss him while I am gone and worry that he is being taken care of as much as the care that I give him.

If someone is willing but thinks twice a day is daunting, you can get away with them coming over once a day if that will get you someone.

Little guy will be fine with 1 feeding a day for 4 days until you get back. It will make him more happy to see you knowing that mommy is now back to feed him all he wants. :mrgreen:

That might be more doable...have to make sure that if I have crickets that they remove them completely after 20 minutes or so. I really doubt my father-n-law would be happy to volunteer, hahahaha! Gotta go make arrangements...thanks for all of your help! I really appreciate it!

Since your dragon is used to atleast 2 meals a day, depending on when your baby would be fed during the day, leaving in the crickets that aren't eaten originally couldn't hurt most likely. I mean, if its fed anywhere from the morning to like 3pm or 4, I would assume your beardie would just eat the rest over the course of the day.
But that's just my opinion on the matter.

Unfortunately Rex has a basking spot that is a tree branch that has many places where crickets hide. So when I feed him I take out his branch... Not sure if my critter sitter wants to go through all the extra steps I do for him. I wouldn't want crickets left in there that might think Rex is a tasty treat at night. LOL. I appreciate your suggestion though.
