Glass surfing

My new baby bearded dragon is glass surfing a bunch and not eating very well. This is day 5 I have had him and he has ate crickets on two of those days. I am not sure why he is glass surfing so much. After he does that he jumps up on his basking rock and starts waving his arm. He seems pretty stressed out and I am not sure how to reduce this or if he will settle in. He is in a 40 gallon tank. Basking spot about 106. Cool side 75-79. Brand new reptisun 10.0. No background at the moment. I do have another bearded dragon in my room but I highly doubt the can see each other. My other beradie is 10 years old and pretty much just lays around out of sight in his tank.

Babies and any bearded dragon who have just moved will be stressed for a week or so. This is pretty normal. I suggest offering him other foods (Collard greens, mustard greens, butternut squash, phoenix worms *they're very high in calcium and will help supplement that issue while they are not eating their dusted crickets* you can buy them online here http://www.phoenixworm.com/ the good thing about these is that they're a good staple from what I heard and theyre low in fat ) My baby is having a similar issue and will refuse to eat anything other than collard greens and phoenix worms. your temps seem fine but the tank seems a little large for a baby. They can seem lost in a tank that big and have a hard time finding crickets. If you cant get a smaller tank I would suggest feeding him in a separate box that's a bit smaller. (But be careful doing that! i tried that with mine and he hated me for a good 5 minutes with a puffed out beard and mouth wide open, poor little thing :c ) Other than that he should be fine within a week or so. If he still doesn't eat after that i would see a vet because he could have a possible internal issue that needs to be checked on. Hope I helped at least a little! Good luck with your little one

Hi. What kinds of lights are you using? Brands. How are you taking temps? Is the 106 the temp on the basking spot?

What else is in your setup? Does he have any furniture, visual barriers or hides? A big empty enclosure can seem spacious but without security for the dragon he might just feel terrified. Glass dancing is escape behavior (reptiles don't understand about glass the same way some other animals do) and means, for some reason he wants to get away from where he is.

I'd try giving him some branches to climb on, and position them so he can bask while still feeling mostly hidden from view. You can also try putting up paper or something on the back or three sides so that he doesn't feel as exposed from those angles.

Thanks for the replies. He hasn't ate anything in two days now. It's like he starves himself then will eat a few crickets. I offer him crickets atleast twice a day and always has fresh collard and mustard greens in his tank. I also provide him with a bath or misting daily to keep him hydrated. I read my temps with a zoo med infrared temp gun. UVB is zoomed reptisun 10.0 only a few days old. Basking light is 100 watt zoomed bulb. I will attached some pics of his enclosure he is in but I taped it up now with some paper and I still hear him in there glass surfing.
