Ghann's Crickets - Changed species? Different eating habits?

I have been buying from Ghann's for months now without any issue except for my most recent shipment I have taken notice that they are not eating my dry Fluker's feed. I have seen at times 1-2 eating, but not the countless that would be on the platter at any giving moment. I had been adding left over lettuce from the lizard to be eaten, but they were just happy with the dry feed so I stopped doing it few month again. Just tonight I added it again and the some, and they are eating it up. What gives? I'm off struck that they won't even touch the dry when the others were more than happy with it.

I know Ghann's states on the website that by the end of Feb. 2012 they made the transition to Gryllus Assimilis from Acheta Domesticus, but the ones I received just this week were much darker than the crickets months prior.

Curious if anyone else may have noticed a species/variety switch, or had the same feeding issue (not necessarily with Ghann's.)

Hi,

I have seen some other suppliers switch over to the darker crickets. I have heard that they are immuned to a fatal cricket disease that has wiped out numerous cricket farms. My opinion is that the darker crickets are much more aggressive and my beardies do not like that. I have found a supplier here on the forums that sells the lighter ones. He ships every Wednesday and they are only $14.00 a box of 1000ct.
Check out the classified section. He goes by tmdragon.

I got crickets earlier this week from Ghann's and they are the dark ones as well. They seemed to be eating the dry cricket feed okay (fluker's) as well as the greens they were getting. However, mine started dying very rapidly...I noticed that they seemed like they keep getting stuck on their backs. When I would go into the bin there would be crickets on their backs that would still be kicking their legs and when I flipped them over they would go on fine...but I can't flip crickets over all day long so I think a lot of them were dying because they were stuck on their backs. I never had this happen with the brown ones....has anyone else had this happen?

I have no problems with mine. I feed mine lots of mustard and collard greens, which they love, a long with Mazuri tortoise chow. They are getting pretty fat and my animals love eating those. Although, one of my leopard gecko love the dubias more and would hold out to get a taste of it.

I think this species need to be kept warmer than the other type; otherwise, they will die.

Not sure what was up with that last shipment... Just recieved my latest and they were the normal coloring, but still look the same in charactistics. Didn't have many die off, about the normal rate, but they didn't appear to last quite as long as I planned. Usually lasts me for 2 weeks, but this one only last roughly 1 week and a half, and my little guy didn't seem to eat as much as usual, so don't know whether shorted on my ordered count or what.

The one time that I bought in bulk, I bought from Fluker's and they were normal crickets. My only complaints about Fluker's was that the crickets had some weird beetles and black worms with them.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
