So this summer I hatched some bearded dragon eggs and kept one of the babies and I'm looking at getting him a nice female as I'd love to breed some more babies. But my question is would I need to get a whole new tank since my boy is only Seven inches long and the female is about 11 inches long. Both are around three months of age. And my boy was one of four and he seems to be a bit depressed since his siblings went to their new homes. I just want to make sure that if I need a new tank for the female while he grows a bit bigger or if they would be fine together.

You would need a new tank entirely for the female, not just until he grows bigger. At this age if you put them together he would most likely begin to loose weight, be bullied and stop eating because of her being the larger more dominant of the two most likely. And even in the future the same thing could happen, but most likely to the female as he would be breeding or trying to constantly. Plus beardies can breed as young as 6 months in some cases causing death for the female most of the time from what i know. They are also solitary so it would stress both out very much most likely.

If its okay can i ask what substrate and uvb lights you have since its your first beardie? At this age it easy to catch all the mistakes before something goes wrong. Not saying your setup is bad just wondering.

He's on sand right now and is doing really well on it eating fine. Ummm I can remember what the UVB and UVA bulbs are but he has both and a heat lamp. He was the smallest of the hatchlings that I hatched out.

He was on a carpet before but when the other moved out his climbing branch that allowed him to get to the hammock and basking spot made the carpet slip and it nearly hit him so he got moved to sand so it wouldn't happen again.

I suggest quickly removing that substrate. I had a baby beardie a few years back that died within 2-5 minutes on sand within a week and she was as healthy as possible. Of course she was mainly in a setup with repticarpet so she didnt have sand all the time. Only that one time, which just lets you know how bad sand can be. If you have a coil or compacted bulb you need to get rid of it and get a reptisun or arcadia tube light. For reptisun a t5 HO 10.0 will work.

Also i highly suggest not adding something dangerous just because something doesnt work like before, you should rearrange the stick or add something underneath it to lay on.

Okay. He's been on it now for about a month I did ask a breeder at the pet store and she said that he would be fine on the sand. I tried doing everything I could and each time the carpet slipped and the last time it slipped was the time it almost hit him.

Get some paper towels for now and find a nice sized rock outside that you can lay it up against, of course soak the rock in hot water and bake it in the oven at 250 for 30 minutes and letting it cool before putting it in. Usually people at petstores, even breeders tell the wrong info.

Yes ... two (2) tanks both 4ft x 2ft x 2ft , one beardie per tank , only let them be together for brief romantic encounters in season in order to allow them to make.

House separately ALL OTHER TIMES.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
