Gas and Weird Poop/Bubble IN Poop

Our Odahviing poops while swimming. Not normally a cause for concern except that she did this today. That bizarre, eyeball looking thing is a MASSIVE bubble of gas, and I'm not sure if I should be worried. That's it floating in the water.

It looked like that on the paper towel after I fished it out.

When I smushed it it STUNK. It didn't smell before, so I assume it's flatulence/gas? She had a few days the last couple of weeks where she did not poop and had a decreased appetite, the next day she had a MASSIVE poo and ate like mad. There were maybe three instances of that. She's been eating greens and has some crickets (she loves the chase) but eats mostly butterworms for nutrition.

She's got two ReptiSun 10.0 bulbs for UVB, 110 on basking with 95-90 ranging through her warmer side and down through the high to low 80s on her cool side. Many spots for shade that she takes advantage of when she wants. No other signs of health issues. Active, bright eyed, happy and quick footed. No mood changes or other behaviour changes that I have noticed.

Odahviing had another weird eyeball poo... Frankly, it's grossly intriguing. It was accompanied by tiny bubbles. I actually watched her do it. Urate, normal looking poo, weird poo with bubbles coming out with it.

Note: This is the strangest forum post I have ever written. Poo farts.

I'm wandering if it's a sperm plug I've never actually seen one but they have been described very wellwell

I know, right? If there was anything else going on I'd be worried. I see that bearded dragons can have gas. I'm debating taking in some stool for a fecal, since gas can be a sign of a yeast issue.. But aside from that I'm curious if that's even remotely anything somebody else has seen. She's been putting out gas with every poop and floaties. It's bizarre. And she's quite satisfied after. She almost looks serene immediately following. Takes after her father.

Joking aside, anybody else have a dragon with gas issues? I'm concerned that she has no way to articulate discomfort. She may not be in pain, but gas boating can't be comfy. Treatment? She's passing gas with every poop though not as extreme as the photographed weirdness.

A tech at my vet's office told me that sometimes fruit can cause bloating and gas in beardies, so could some kind of fruit be the culprit here? Have you introduced anything new into her diet? My George recently had a round of gas in the bathtub (nothing as dramatic as Odahviing's, but he made some impressive bubbles) the day after I introduced him to figs, so I just assumed that was what was going on. It was only the one time, though, so I didn't have to worry about treating it--it was apparently just a one-time thing.

If you want to do something to move things along, maybe you could gently massage her tummy in the bath? I imagine she does feel better after she, um, expells. Better out than in, right? :) I guess beardies, just like people, get upset tummies sometimes. If it will help your own peace of mind, go ahead and call the vet and ask if they want to do a fecal. It really does sound like she's perfectly fine, though.

BTW, I've been a lurker on Odahviing's thread. She's a beautiful girl and you've taken some really amazing pictures of her.

I've started giving her rubbies. Kind of feeling down her tract. She starts squirmy then settles in.

Thank you! She's so easy to photo. It's amazing to watch all the beardies on her blossom and grow and change. Looking back at our girl makes me get all warm and gooey hearted. And watching the rescue threads makes me just crazy fuzzy inside.

Yeah, I hear you about the rescue threads. Bless all who rescue beardies in need. I have fantasies about winning the lottery, quitting my job, and devoting myself to traveling from city to city rescuing all the neglected beardies listed on Craigslist. :)

So is Odahviing still doing the "eyeball poo" thing or is she back to normal?

That looks like something that came out of the movie "Splice" for those who've seen it and know what I'm talking about.

Aside from that, If she doesn't seem to be showing any signs of pain? Maybe its nothing too serious BUT I would still go in for that fecal, just as a safety precaution. You never know. Other than that, those are the strangest poo farts ever o_O aren't we lucky us humans don't release those kinda gasses. lol

No more eyeballs, but I'm still going to take in a sample. I like a once yearly anyway, and she's about due. It's so freaking weird. >.< Otherwise she's fine.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
