Our 6yr old son has decided he wants a "scary" - wait, let me start over.
About 7 years ago, my daughter saw a very frightening creature sitting in the parking lot. It looked like a bearded dragon out sunning himself, but was in fact a plastic toy probably dropped earlier that day. After a brief inspection, I determined it was safe to pick up, and my daughter kept it in the car for years. She called it her "scary". her Scary went with us everywhere, and she was more than happy to introduce her new infant brother to her Scary when he joined the family.
Now the boy has decided he wants a Scary. Unfortunately for me, he wants the living, breathing kind and not another plastic toy.
We plan on bringing one home from the reptile expo in April, but have begun to get familiar with their care and feeding. I have a 47gal bowfront aquarium to donate to the cause, UVA/UVB and necessary fixtures, and we have begun to set the tank up. Once the beardie outgrows the 47gal, I'll upgrade my turtletank to a 120gal and reuse the 75gal for the beardie.
Here's teh 75gal he/she will inherit
and the 47gal she/he will start in
*
*will remove the water
Now, one of the things we are wondering about is having the beardie share the 75gal with a Hermanns Tortise. What is the general opinion with mixed species cohabitating?
