This is very very true, but I will do everything I can to educate both stores and individuals, using legal force if necessary. This is why I started Reptile Care Alliance. We can't help them all, but we can help some.

Here is my reply

Thank you for your reply. I don't know what kind of conditions the reptiles in your stores are living in, but I hope that they are not like the ones described above. With this information, it may be a wise business choice to sue for your name so it is not tarnished by this fool in Ohio.

Don't get me wrong, I think that everyone who knows the right way to care for dragons should do what they can to help.

It's just such huge problem I think.

I have been working a lot to cover hours for a coworker of mine that had to have surgery, I haven't had time to go back in yet.
I know this sounds horrible but I cannot bring myself to go back in there. I don't know how I'm going to react if I see that the beardies are still being kept in deplorable conditions. I'm also not sure if they will ask me to leave or not, given my reaction last time when I was there. I need some guidance. :(

I understand how you feel, but I cannot act on the problem unless I know that there still is a problem. Just remember, they cannot do anything as long as you are not disruptive or threatening. You can let them know, in a polite way, that they are being watched.

Interesting. I was in there around that time and since then an they didnt look that bad to me. The two that were together were in a 55gal. tank with green felt in the bottom and the third one was in what looked to be a rabbit cage with reptibark in the bottom. All had suitable lighting and seemed to be in well shape. All of the other reptiles were on reptibark as well. Huge diffrence between reptibark and wood chips.I shop there quite often and find that most of the staff is well experienced. They have been honest with me from the get go with stuff they carry and will let me know if I need to go to another store. I just dont want to see a store get a bad rap when they dont deserve it. thanks for at least being worried the animals werent taken care of properly.

I've been in pet stores that had dead dragons in the tank.....sometimes, all you can do is just walk out and never return. For stores that seem to be doing "most" things right, I'll speak up if I see something out of the ordinary. For example, an adult male dragon on display at a local pet store had a burnt out basking bulb. I asked them to check it, and they replaced it within the hour. I've found that most employees at pet stores really do care for the animals, in some cases they just don't know the proper care. Petco and other big chain stores are like this...the employees have to use store products, and often times the stores simply don't stock recommended items.

A rabbit cage that is only 3 feet tall with a basking bulb of 110 with a piece slate will stay pretty warm plus provides a good feeding surface as long as you pay attention while they eat. gives plenty of space to move around and climb to promote exercise as well. Ive kept monitors the same way and they do great. usually a pretty deep tray to that will keep the dirt in plus let the dust from any bedding move freely rather than trap it inside and give greater cause for respiratory infection.

any loose substrate is bad for dragons they lick everything and the dust will give them a URI. and i bet the pet store doesnt watch them closely when feeding. not to mention monitors are way different than dragons

That, "it is corporate mandated", answer really ticks me off!!! :angry5: :angry5: That's same as if you would put a human in pool barely the size of the person, constructed in a way so you can't get out, and than say "this is corporate mandated" :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: How can ppl be sooooooooooooo STUPID?!?! :angry5:
I don't get it, I don't get it at all!

Hey guys, obviously I am 100% against sand and wood chips and all of the irresponsible substrate...BUT this isn't the thread for that. This was about some beardies whose lives I was trying to improve. I did what I could, obviously it didn't work. Please don't fight.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
