This seems to be an ongoing stress with me, feeding veggies. The only green that Chaos will eat is Collard Greens. Guess what? With the weather changing here collard greens are becomming scarce. :banghead: Now what? I know that he likes cactus and that is a daily feeder. I cannot however support his hunger with my slow growing prickly pear cactus. I did find, purchase, and try this San Francisco Bay Healthy Herp Cactus Tortoise Treat. Here is the link https://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=6016+7891+6048+19686&pcatid=19686 He loves it. It is freeze dried, you soak it in warm water for a few minutes before serving. I know that fresh is best and I will still continue to find things that he will eat (still only 5 months old), but is this an OK option when his freh favorites are scarce?

He also seems to like Ficus. I went to the local nursery and "stole" a leaf  for him to try. Why by the plant w/o a sample first right? Don't worry it was organic! How often can I feed this? It is listed on the beautiful dragons nutrition chart under safe plants, but I'm not sure how often he can have it. I looked up a few sites on google about the oxalate content of ficus leaves but I can't makes heads of tail of all that 50 pound head stuff.

Does anyone have an AeroGarden? I was trying my hand at dandelions and well I can't seem to get them to grow! Go figure it's a weed! Anyway I thought that maybe I could make them grow in a AreoGarden. Chaos would always have fresh and it's organic. They aren't cheap and I just wanted to know if anyone had one before I got one. I've purchased too many things that never performed the way they were supossed to! I HATE that! :angry5:

You can grow collards in the winter, inside... 5 gal pickle bucket, with drainage holes drilled.. A shop lamp with a full spectrum light ( i've used ones in the past for salt water tanks, or gro lights for plants, both do equally well) then set in place, and plant, then harvest leaf by leaf as needed ;)

Janie,
This is a wonderful idea!!! :blob5: :blob8: At the risk of sounding like an *****, what's a 5 gallon pickle bucket? Would you, or anyone else, happen to have a set up like this that could post a pic please? I'm in southern VA and it will not get too cold here I also have tons of natural light in my house, would a special bulb be necessary? If I went w/o the bulb then realized that it was needed would it hurt the plant? I really do not know much of anything when it comes to gardening...... I am going to give this one a go though! :blob5: :blob8:

Got a Burger King near you ? They get in 5 gallon buckets of Pickles at least once a week. Just ask for the empties ;)
Drill like 7-12 holes in the bottom, I followed the out side ring and the inside ring, then fill 2" of pea pebble, then potting soil ( again I compost so have a ready mix always) with in 4" of the lip. Collards are cool weather plants, so you shouldn't have any temp issues as long as you have it above 65*. You can go w/o the lights, but the plants will be puny. All you need is a shop light, the bell type, and the bulb, not tube. 1 bulb per bucket of planted collards ;)
You'll see !

OK now I've got it! Thanks Janie! My poor hubby has so many weekend projects, good thing it should only take a few minutes to drill some holes. The idea of me and power tools scares him!

How about the ficus, anyone know how often they can have it?
Any opinons (sp?) about the freeze dried cactus? He loves it so I hope it's an OK thing for him to have.

I have two AeroGardens and love them they work absolutely GREAT! In fact I have herbs in one that are growing and plan on feeding to my beardie. They are a great way to grow anything inside. I have not tried dandelions but cannot figure out why they would not just use the master gardener kit. I have grown all types of lettuce and many other things in both of mine.

I have not yet tried ficus or cactus for mine he just seems to like crickets right now but he is a baby so we will see as he gets older

Even though I have a degree in Hort, I tend to be old fashioned in my gardening.. I don't know that ficus' is altogether safe, as there are 3 varieties I know of.. One is purely ornamental, while the other two ( one is a hybrid) are fruit bearing.
The hibiscus is good for treats, and so are mustards, collards, and other squashes.. Which by the way, you can indeed grow inside in said bucket ;)
Oh, and I have some rather out of the box ways to grow produces ;)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
