Free roaming?

I've noticed alot of people give their beardies free roam of their houses or just a certain room in the house. i was wondering how you gain enough trust to know they wont run away or get hurt? i've had my beardie for about 8 months. he's really good with handling, he does the occasional squirm away but im able to hang on through it. i was wondering how you started out just letting your dragon sit on your shoulder, on the couch, on your lap, etc. without him/her running away? any tips for this? thanks!

I started out in the bathroom.... i have a large master bathroom so i would put towels under the closet and towels under the bathroom door, i put him a light incase he gets cold and thats it. I have another door that i can leave through if i want and i have left him in there. I would just check on him every so often is all... now that is his bigger and easier to grab he roams the bathroom and the hallway, i plug under the doors and have a baby gate up(oneday he will realize he can fit through it,lol) :wink: but i put some toys in there and he's just as happy as can be i assume... phoenix never did like the shoulder though, but he loves to ride around in my pockets. I work at a vet clinic and wear scrubs with HUGE pockets, he would ride in them all day if i let him hahah..

Well, with MY Phoenix , I started out by packing towels under the doors, refrigerator, oven and anywhere else she could get into and I just put her down. She always ran a little then looked at me to make sure she was allowed. It's been months and she still does it. Just keep an eye on her.

As far as the shoulder thing, I used to put her on the front of my shirt and let her ride around for a few minutes, then I moved on to just putting her on my shoulder and just walking around. She got used to it, then that was that.

You just have to make sure that you watch them until you get used to it. Before long, it becomes normal. After I give Phoenix her bath, I put her on the floor and she runs right into her viv. It's on the floor of my living room and I leave one of the doors open and she just helps herself.

same here chelly. when i saw the first picture of him i just knew, he was the one, and i knew right then what i wanted his name to be. i did try a few others out for his name but Phoenix just fits him so well.

I picked Phoenix because it could go for a boy or a girl and it was super iffy at that time.

oh, well that makes perfect sense. I got mine from a breeder so she knew he was a he,lol, but i agree that is a great name and it can go either way!! :mrgreen:

same reason i picked it! i'm still unsure of his sex. i was told he is a probable male. but i dont know how to sex him.

My Phoenix is 11 months old. He was born around the second week of May i was told. I'll check out your thread! any idea how i can tell or if he's old enough to tell?
