Freaking out about dusting supplements?!

I have heard so many different stories on how often to dust/what supplements to use and when to use them. The Facebook page I'm on (Bearded Dragon Obsession) said calcium with no d3 every day, multivitamin once a week, and calcium with d3 twice a month. The care sheet here says something way different.

I don't want to overdose my beardie but I also don't want him to get MBD

Help please!

Also they said the repcal with d3 has way too much d3 in it. Thoughts?

I tend to agree the rep-cal has a lot of D3. What lights do you use?

Any of the supplement schedules are just best guess or from breeder experience. That's not really sceintific enough for me.

The one meal, 5x a week with D3 doesn't make sence to me, empirically because that could be a calcium deficit diet, actually. Some brands also have different doses per body weight, or are intended for every day... so it's not even that simple.

I personally prefer to use the T5 lights and not use D3 when possible. From all I have read the benefit of the dietary D3 isn't all that much and it can cause problems of over used (of course there is no data on what that limit is!), so I just try to go a more natural route with the lights and outside time. My all-in-one has it, but much less than the rep-cal - I've been using that on ever meal since pepper eats less bugs it makes the vitamin schedule a non-issue. When he was eating more bugs he got plain Ca on each meal and vitamins 2x per week.

You use Repashy all in one, right? I am using the Reptisun HO t5 so d3 might be an overload then.

Yep.

As I understand it the body won't make too much D3, so the lights won't cause overdose when used with supplements but because the body self-limits and creates only what it needs letting the body do its thing is better in the long run. Basically it's not needed, and just like people it's wiser not to use it if it's not needed.

Do you think if I use the repashy all in one on insects every day or every other day that would be enough calcium?
And would it be too much Vitamin A? I know that vitamin A overdose is a thing...

This might be a helpful read. The Repashy is designed for everyday.http://www.store.repashy.com/vitamins-and-minerals-in-the-superfood-products.html

I can't speak too much on vit a simply because again the literature isn't there, it's mostly communal info from the hobby. I think the scare about vit a started nore with chameleons, it resulted in vit a removal from supplements which in turn resulted in vit a defficency problems. :?

I'd agree with Taterbug on what is said above

I'd certainly show caution with supplementation beyond pure Ca. being sure not to over sue them. Instead try and use a well balanced diet with correct ligthing as the main route to a healthy dragon.

Yeah all this is true that if you want to take any health supplements then you must consult the expert for the prescriptions. When I started taking the bodybuilding Green supplements I got suggestions from my dietician. He told me the benefits of those pills and gave proper instructions on how often to take them.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
