Hi,

I've had my dragon for about 1 month now and I am trying to create a staple diet for it, but it is difficult.

Because I live in Jersey C.I. trying to find decent food is difficult especially when my dragon is a stubborn ***** when it comes to food lol.

The only food i can purchase from the local pet shops, which there are only two I know of which sell any BD food, are Crickets (Live or Dead), Locusts (Live), Waxworms or Mealworms (Live or Dead).

Now the issue I have is that my BD won't bother eating any live crickets or any dead ones even if put in one of those annoying vibrating dishes.
He will eat the Locusts.
He will eat the waxworms, but they should only be treats.
He will eat the mealworms (only live ones atm cause I have only just tried using the dead dry ones) but they should only be treats and can cause the digestive problems if eaten regularly.
And finally when given fresh fruit 'n' veg he won't even bother trying them.

Now what I have done is put the D3 supplements on the worms he eats etc., but I haven't yet tried the whole gut loading thing.

Anyway will he be fine if he just eats gutloaded locusts and the occassional waxworm as his staple diet or will he end up having dietry issues?

Any info will be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Locust are a fine feeder in replace of crickets and wax worms are ok occasionally but mealies are a big no no.

Also, keep trying the veggies and fruits because eventually he or she will eat them. It took one of my dragons 6 mons of being offered veggies before he'd try them. My youngest dragon is 3 months old and from day 1 she has eaten tons of veggies as well as crickets and worms. So don't give up on the veggies and I agree meal worms are a no no.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
