Hi, I just bought my first beardie. His name is Thor my 2 year old named him. he is white hypo smoothie with German giant. I got him from a breeder and he told me a lot of info and I read that there is calcium overdose and the breeder told me i am safe to give him calcium with both cricket feeds per day until a certain age i dont recall what age though, he is about 4 months old right now.

Hey! About the calcium, I did loads of research and came to the conclusion (from multiple sites/people/my vet) that you should dust crickets 5 times a week, but only one feeding per day. I use RepCal with D3. And you also need to dust the crickets with vitamins (Herptivite is what I use and is what is usually recommended) twice a week. So some people will dust with calcium Mon-Fri and dust with vitamins on Sat/Sun. But I dust with vitamins Tues,Thurs and dust with calcium every other day. My guy's name is Dex. He's 5 months. How big is Thor? I wanna compare. What breeder did you get him from? And you should post pics, he sounds pretty awesome. I want a German Giant .

hey yeah, i wanted to post a pic but i'm not sure how. Thor is i would say about 8-10 inches tip to tip. i didn't know he was German giant till i picked him out and the breeder said he had the German giant gene in him. that was one thing the breeder said not to give was calcium with d3. then i researched what it was and what it does to the beardie and it is a chemical that can not be digested in the stomach and is said to aid the dragon if not getting enough UVB i believe it was, but i have a repsun UVB 10.0 and i guess i tried to make my setup the exact way he has it for best growth and health from what im told. the breeder i go him from is in a suburb north of Minneapolis in Minnesota.

figured it out, Thor is sleeping right now so i cant take him out to play i had a lot of things going on so he didnt get his/her night play time out of the cage but tomorrow im going to actually measure him/her because i think me may actually be almost a foot i could be wrong. here is a pic they day we got him when i put him on his perch.

Whoa. He's awesome looking. And about the d3, if you take him outside to soak up some sun often then you don't need it. But if its only getting artificial uvb, d3 is recommended. Unless you use stronger uvb sources. Like a mercury vapor bulb. But mercury vapor bulbs aren't best for beardies anyways. With a reptisun 10.0, you wanna use d3.

I just measured him, he is 9 inches.how long us dex?

Did you measure tail to snout? Because I haven't actually measured dexter but when I got him he was just under 3 months and already 10miss inches. Now he's probably 14 or 15. He's grown quite a bit. And he's 5 month's. So if Thor is 2 years old and 9 inches, thats pretty strange.
**** nevermind. I just saw that he's 4 months lol. I was confused. Because you said your 2 year old named him. I'm dumb lol. So yea..
