first shedding..what should I do?

Hi everyone,
This afternoon my beardie had her first shed that i am aware of. I would like to know what can I do to make her comfortable. Is it ok to handle her just after she's done shedding? Should I give her a bath? Please help, i am a first time bd parent! Thanks. Verena

Hello Verena,

Yes, by all means you can handle her during a shed and after. Giving her a bath would probably be one of the best things you could do for her right now. You can actually give her a few baths a day if you want. Definitely keep her and her skin hydrated, it helps it come off easier and makes her more comfortable. Try not to pull it off, as to not damage the new scales underneath. If she has any bothersome areas you can use a very soft toothbrush on her. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot...I just gave her a bath and she seems to be feeling better....she did not want to eat her crickets though..I've read that this is normal?

Yes, it is very normal for them to have a loss of appetite. They are also known to get a bit grumpy sometimes while shedding. I guess we would to if we were shedding our skin.. :|
