First Bearded Dragon. Is he happy?

Okay, so I got my first bearded dragon two weeks on Wednesday and I keep worrying about the fact that he's not happy. He is approx 4-5 inches and seems healthy. He has no missing toes and no missing tail tip, a chubby tummy and his eyes are bright and alert. I started with a 3ft viv as it was recommended that I bought the size he'd need for when he was older. Anyway, he eats fresh greens everyday and between 8-15 crickets. I give him mini mealworms a few times a week. Enjoys fruit as a treat and loves trying new things. His viv is at the correct temperature and his lights are on for 12 hours a day. He doesn't mind being handled but sometimes can be a bit shy. He seems to like it when I stroke his head and back. I'm the type of person who would die before seeing an animal be neglected. I just want to make sure I'm doing everything right and he's getting the best possible care I can give to him. Also, I named him Spyro. Could someone give me some tips or just reassure me? Thanks.

It sounds like he's getting used to you, it can take awhile if they aren't used to humans. When they bond with humans they prefer to be on humans 24/7, like our Goldie Speedy, she prefers our shoulders 24/7, even tho it's healthier for her to be in her tank from time to time.

You should give him as much as he'll eat in a 10 to 20 minute period. Especially baby and juvie beardies. You might want to limit the mealworms. You can offer superworms when he reaches 14 to 16 inches long. I do suggest feeding them greens first, it will get them used to eating them. They don't eat greens very much at that age, they will when they get to be about 2 years old, but you need to get them used to eating greens, otherwise they won't eat them as often.

I agree, sounds like he is doing great. Are you using calcium supplements and vitamins, dusting his crickets 1 feeding 5 x a week for calcium and 2 x a week for vitamins? What type of UVB light do you have? It will help your baby to have all the right things now to avoid problems later. Beardie parents is right, they love to spend time with you and you will find you have a hard time putting her in her viv!! I have to make myself remember that they need the heat to digest they're food, makes it easier to put her in instead of just holding her and playing with her all day..lol

Yes, I think he looks healthy. He's adorable! Keep the pics coming. That last picture belongs on a thread called "Beardie's fall asleep every which way, I want pics!" It's in the photo expressions forum. All of us on this forum would love to see it/

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
