Our girl is about 7 months old and her enclosure is next to our male's enclosure. They get along fine and never bob, wave, or black beard each other when they are out and she doesn't seem stressed being next to his enclosure. She does, however, dig. A lot! The first time she did this we couldn't find her, and pulled out all of her furniture. When I finally lifted up her heavy feeder bench, her head popped out. She digs in her hide, she digs tunnels through her enclosure (filled with dirt that we got from the reptile shop). She doesn't seem gravid. She just digs... and digs... and digs.
Is this normal for a female or is this just her? Should I get her a laying box, if nothing else just because she has such an instinct to dig? Is she digging because she is set up next to our male and her instincts are kicking in? Or is she just bored and having fun when she's digging? Its kind of cute, because when she is busy digging, if someone stands up and moves to her enclosure and she sees us from the corner if her eyes, she will pop her head up and become more interested in us than the digging itself. And sometimes her whole front of her body is under the dirt, and her back legs and tail are out.... another reason I think its more for fun than to instinctually dig as a female, but I really don't know. We've only had a male in the past who just laid around, but he passed away from jumping off of our couch and breaking his spine, and now another male who's about 6 months older than our female and doesn't seem to dominate her, although Im sure that in the spring it will be a different story. Anyone else have a female that digs all the time? any advise is appreciated.
