Hi,

I am a new Beardie mom to a beautiful baby boy named Elliott. I'm actually so new, I have not picked him up yet. I have to wait until July 3rd until he is 8 weeks old. :) I am trying to get as much information and planning done as possible. I was wondering if there was a minimum amount of time you need to have the lights on after you feed them. I get home from work at 5:30pm. I was going to do the 2nd feeding of the day at that time and have lights off be at 8:00pm. Is this leaving enough time for digesting, or should I adjust it to have lights off be later.

Also, I know you are supposed to handle your dragon daily, but can you take them out of the cage during their lights on time, or will this cause them to not get enough UVB?

Thanks, Leann

Ideally, beardie has 1 1 /2 - 2 hours to bask before AND after feedings. I think your schedule then, should work just fine, and you can plan your "out of viv" time accordingly as well. :D We usually have beardie out for a bit during the day between feedings (we've always chosen 2 times per day, but some feed 3 times). During the daytime outings, we're likely to use it for a bath for her, or so she can get some window or exploring time. We then take her out at light outs for a cuddle... she usually falls asleep on one of us and after a time, we burrito her and place her gently back in the viv.

Also, sorry I just realized I should have posted this under "feeding" not "feeders" oops!

No worries!

The best, and congrats on getting a new little dearie!

Aw! Thanks for the info. I can't wait to get Elliott home so I can burrito him :D haha! I didn't know they needed time to bask before eating. I may need to adjust it to 7:00am to 7:00pm. Or maybe 7:00am to 8:00pm, is 13 hours on too much? I leave for work around 8:30am, so if I do lights on at 7:00am feed him before I leave at 8:15 or 8:30 then feed him at 5:00pm and lights out at 7:00pm-8:00pm? Does that sound reasonable?

You're most welcome. Up to 14 hours of daylight per day is fine. Your feeding schedule sounds good, provided he gets up and basking soon after waking. :)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
