Hey i wanna start up a picture only thread of peoples feeder set ups. (Crickets, roches, worms, everything.....) Give people ideas and get some for yourself, sometimes the littlest ideas go a long way......

also you could add where you keep them (special shelf set up, closet, box set ups, rubermaid drawer set ups.....)

Anyone like to start????.........

I wanted to reply to your request days ago, but my camera is broken so I can not get
updated pic's for you. I do however have some older pic's of my roach colonies and my supers.

Feeding 9 beardies can get costy so we decided in March of last year to start a colony of Turks.
So we ordered 1k from here; http://www.thebugpros.com/

Roaches

I chose to use a tall glass tank with no silicone an a screen lid to house my turks in.
Being they like the dark warm places we wrapped it in paper grocery bags and mounted
a under tank heater. I started with this one.

The easiest way I could find to sort thru them and pick out my feeders without touching
them was with the paper towel card boards and a deli containers.

From the day I got them in March I had been feeding my beardies from them just not
my big egg laying females. In about 4 months I had more than I knew what to do with
so had to start another enclosure.

Supers

In July of last year after reading a thread that clear(Chris) started I decided I'd try
to grow supers.

Separated worms so they would stress and morph

Place aliens in a container until they turn to beetles and become black.

Once beetle turn black place them in beetle container(s)

Microscopic supers in the beetle substrate 3 weeks later.

Took beetles out of containers and placed them in new containers
with new substrate. Dump the old container substrate into a 15qt tub. Cut center
of lid out and taped screen so they were well ventilated as to not mold.

Almost 5 months into this.........

I changed out the substrate yesterday to find that I have 2 inch long supers. :blob8:

EXCELLENT post, Barbara. Thank you. What kind of substrate do you use for your supers?
Thank-you! :)
We have a grocery store here called Winco, they have a bulk food section. So I buy my substrates there for really cheap. It is not always the exact mixture of grains and cereal, but my main ingredients are wheat germ, wheat bran, scottish oats, oat bran, cornmeal, corn grits, and dry baby cereals.

I use the scottish oats as they are more finely ground and have better nutritional value rather than regular oats. And when you have to change substrates it makes sifting it much easier.

this is my glass tank of crickets. i was just going to keep this for breeders and try and get them to lay in containers but it didn't work out so well. my other cricket keep just sucked. i think because i didn't have it vented right and because i had it stored in the closet. The crix in the tank are doing good.

i thought they would lay in these. some eggs were in there but like i said once the flies got in the plastic tote that was it for me and that container. i'll keep the glass one.

here's a question that's probably been answered somewhere but i can't find it for the life of me. are the worms that are on their sides in the c shape, are they getting ready to turn in to aliens??

Far right is the incubator deal that i made from home insulation. This is where i morph the worms into beetles, as well as house the beetles untill i move them into the bigger 15gal tank.

so basically just dirt makes for a good cricket substrate?

and uh probably a dumb question but i have issues, whats the best way to move crickets from their tank to wherever you feed your beardie?

Method #1: You can take out the egg flat/toilet paper tubes and shake them into your feeding box
Method #2: You could pick them out one buy one if you hand feed him
Method #3: If you put a hole in the side of your cricket houseing and put a plastic tube in the side with one end sealed up the crix will gather in the tube then you can just slide the tube out bang it into the place you feed your beardie then put it back into the crix house. (just make sure the tube is a tight fit or they WILL escape.)

Hope this helps :)

thanks! it will probably be easier to use your first method when i start getting them in large quantities
The TP or paper towel rolls work great. You can see in the roach enclosures in the second post works the same with crickets. Specially if you don't want to touch them.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
