Fattening Up Phoenix Worms

...I saw a how-to guide for fattening up Phoenix worms...has anyone other than the author tried this? Is it recommended? Safe? I bought a trial cup of 100 to see if Leopold would eat them, because I want to get rid of the cricket tank (gross!), and he started mawing them down like 6 at a time...

...I think he likes them. They're not cheap.

I actually started about a week ago. I started with the baby food on all natural bread and I think it really smelled. I may have done that though. I put a couple different kinds on bread. This time I used all natural applesauce. No smell. But you know how small they are when they arrive, after about 4 days they are at least double in size. I was so impressed I ordered 1000 small Phoenix worms on line to get here on about the 5th. I am done to change out food tomorrow. I will post picture of the size of a worm.

I just ordered 4 cups (400 large in ea cup) tonight.. I'm going to assume they're not going to ship until Monday, and be here Wed or Thurs...

What brands of bread/applesauce did you use?

Not a fan of mealworms, either, mostly because the "giant" were listed as about 1" long, and most of them are larger than that, so now I have 12 cups of worms he has to "grow into"... Any idea how long they live while refrigerated?

Don't know anything about mealworms.
Just Wal-Mart brand all natural no sugar applesauce. Bread as been a pain to find actually. Not having easy time finding no preservative all natural bread had to go to Panera and their loaf was about $12. So I'm freezing it till I use every other day. I laughed. I never would spend that money on bread for even my kids and I was putting maggots in it. Lol

Hah! Truth. Told hubby he doesn't need $8 a half loaf gluten free bread. Bread isn't good for him anyway....and here I go off in search of specialty items for worms.

So after 3rd feed change this how big. I truly am happy with the growth. Sorry I don't have any how small they arrive.
I added some more cute ones of her. If you try let me know how it's going or if you find cheaper bread at a chain store or somewhere like that.

I did do the bread and baby food for maybe a few weeks. They will get really fat and grow especially if you keep them around 90° but it was to much of a hassle for me. If you have plenty of time (which I don't because of horrid work hours lol) then that's the way to go. They do start to stink pretty bad and changing out the bread and baby food and keeping track of the slippery, slimy, disgusting worms was to much of a hassle lol. Same thing with silkworms, I ordered in bulk and it was a big mistake. Having to clean and change there bins everyday was to much, I just order small quatities and feed em off quick to supplement her diet.
