Eye looks sunken... !

Hello,

Sorry her eye is still not looking good at all. It could possibly be related to a respiratory issue, as sometimes they can cause eye infections.
At least she did eat today, that is good it is not totally affecting her appetite. Did she bask quite a bit today?

Hello ....
just an update on Seuzy .. my poor baby girl is looking worse today... she's really lethargic, won't open her left eye, and loosing weight again..
she did eat 20+ butters this morning for me, she's still really alert when it comes to chasing and chomping her beardie bugz...
I'm baffled as to what is going on with my little girl.. I was reading through the archives and read that "gaper" ( StumpysOwner) passed away who is Seuzy's brother
from the same clutch.. wondering if there is a connection..
it's just so weird, she was fine one day, the next she looked like a completely different beardie... We're still giving her pedialyte every few hours, good doses of Vit's and Calci,
probiotic and baby food to get some weight back on her... she's eating good.. but can't seem to get her re-hydrated or keep her weight up.. I'm crossing my fingers and toes
that this Vet can help us..

Hello,

How is little Seuzy today? Any improvements?
When is it you are taking her to the vet? At least she is eating for you though, so, hopefully you can get her going in the right direction. It is a big possibility that she could have a respiratory issue because that is quite commonly related to eye issues. I would have them do an eye swabbing so they can do a culture of the bacteria that is in there to determine the best route of treatment.

Let us know how she is doing.

took Suezy to the Vet today.. he drew some blood so I'm just waiting on her fecal and blood test to come back..
He said she looks a little dehydrated and her eye could be a vitamin deficiency. it's really swollen today and is still kinda
crooked.. the eye itself looks like it is setting towards the back of her eye socket.. so weird. I noticed today that
she kept scratching at it with her back foot and when I was rubbing her ears (she loves that) I happen to
graze her eye and she started rubbing her head on my hand as to "itch" her eye.. :dontknow:
I know it's bothering her. She is looking better today.. little more peppy and starting to act like
my little bratty beardie again :laughing6: .... she's eating good.. taking in her fluids (not willingly)
and ran around her viv chomping her beardie bugz..

Let us know what the blood work says. I hope you get the blood test & fecal test back soon. It could be a vitamin deficiency, maybe vitamin A possibly. Did he consider doing an eye culture on her though as well?
She was trying to scratch her eye on your hand by rubbing her eye on your hand? I hope she is eating good today.
Her poor eye, it probably is bothering her & is itchy.

He didn't say anything about taking a culture of her eye, can't believe I didn't think of it when I was there!

We are taking her back this weekend for a follow up and to get her results. Her eye does look a little infected,

in the mornings when she gets up, it looks kind of foggy. She does have a habit of scratching her eyes with her

back foot when she's in the tub, it's her way of saying " to warm!" :whip: she's funny, the water has to be juuuust right

not to cold..not to warm.. I'm wondering now if she may have scratched her eye and damaged one of her eye muscles.

She's eating really well and taking in her fluids. I feel so bad for her.. when I put her in the "bug box" to eat..

she has such a hard time finding her squirmies.. Poor baby girl..

Morning all !

A very happy update on Seuzy...

She's doing so much better, took her back to the Vet this weekend for her recheck and her labs we're good except
she does have a slight vitamin deficiency and was dehydrated. She looks great today.. gained all her weight back,
she's drinking her water and back to being my lil' beardie brat
I was feeding her butters yesterday and O M G she ate like 25+ and wanted... no demanded more !
When I put the butters away, she looked up at me with a "give me more now!" evil eye :evil:
so, fearing for my life I threw a few more at her and ran out of the room LOL

The Vet did another x-ray of her eye and it showed a small tear in her eye muscle which would explain
why her eye is looking so bad. That's one thing that hasn't improved... More than likely she scratched her
eye with her back foot, she does it sometimes in the bath if the water is too warm . He gave me
some eye drops but other than that there isn't much they can do. She can still see out of it but I can tell she's
having trouble, especially when she's trying to eat. But, other than that...she's back to normal ..

That is great Seuzy is doing much better now! I am so happy to hear that.
The chances of her scratching her eye with her back leg like that is high, as that does happen somewhat frequently. If she still has sight in that eye then she should be ok, even if there is a little bit of damage to that eye.
Wow, 25 butterworms is a feast, what a good girl she is then, & she got a few more out of you huh? Yeah, scary beardie huh? :lol:
So she has gained her weight back now. Is she drinking quite a bit too?
What vitamin deficiency did she have, did the vet say?

Good afternoon beardie bunch!

Wanted to give an update on my lil girl...
A few days after I posted last, Seuzy's eye socket started to look swollen and the eye was looking really bad and puffy..
I got the name of a well known herp Vet from a friend of mine "pscaulkins" (thanks Sandy! :wink: ) and we took her in yesterday...
He is such a GREAT vet, so glad I actually found a Doc that knows about beardies..not such an easy task.. :roll:
Anyhoo...he said it could either be an infection (cross my fingers) or a tumor
this morning it's looking ALOT more swollen.. I don't know if it's just irritated from him looking at it yesterday or if it
is a tumor thats growing.. I'm waiting on her blood work to come back too..

I've been doing some research and found that a few of Suezy's clutch mates have since passed for different reasons.. one of them being Gaper "StumpysOwner" (I'm so sorry Caitlin) So...not sure if maybe this has something to do with her being sick or not.. any ideas??

When will you be getting the information back on the eye exam, did they do a culture this time?
It possibly could be a tumor but hopefully it isn't. Gosh, the swelling just continues to get worse? If that is the case, it may not be an infection or if it is, they need a more specific medication for her.
I hope you get that taken care of soon. How is she doing? Does she seem to be in pain?

Hiyas.. Update on Suezy..

She's seems to be doing a little better.. the swelling in her eye is going down a little, She's been on the antibiotic's for almost a week.
poor baby girl doesen't feel good.. she's been black bearding since we started her on the med's..
The Vet called me last Sunday and her blood work and fecals came back fine.. her calcium level was a tad high but other than that everything looked normal. Starting to wonder now if maybe she may have gotten some of the "potting soil" mixture in her eye when she was laying her eggs. She gets the soil everywhere when she digs! lol :roll: I don't know...grasping at straws trying to figure out what happened..
