Eye issue

Hello all,

I’m hoping this is just new beardie parent jitters, but I’ve noticed Remi favoring her left eye. She’ll keep it closed more than open but can still open it. It doesn’t seem inflamed or discolored. She had been eating like a champ until today (only 10-12 dubias) and she’s pooping normally. I’m pretty careful to not leave any uneaten dubias in her tank too.

Another Facebook group I’m on thinks it’s bc I mount the UVB bulb on the inside of her screen lid.

She also in shed too. I’m wondering if she got a piece of shed in her eye but I don’t see anything from my point of view.

Any suggestions?

They all do that w/ the eye thing mine do it -- she is focusing on something usually when they do it --- where is the UVB - what is it ? Brand and bulb- please we can go over the distance of that bulb

I use the reptisun T5 bulb. It’s about 8” away from her basking spot. She likes to hang our on the log and branch on the left side.

I’ve also removed the brick that was in there. I temp was too hot in the temp gun so I removed it.

T 5 is too close- it needs to be 12-15 inches directly above the basking decor

So should I place it on the top of the screen? I followed your advice Karrie and zip tied it to the inside

No leave it in the tank get rid of some of the decor pieces- drop your decor and have the decor piece 12-15 inches under it- it's easier to move decor than the fixture--

The UVB is too strong for that distance- see what she does w/ her eye- keep me posted

Her lights are off for the night and I’ll see if it makes a difference in the morning.

Do you think there would be any permanent damage from the lights being that close?

I dont think so -- usually the eye will get worse if its a lighting issue and not corrected - meaning it would start to swell water etc --- but I am more worried about getting too much UVB w/ it being so close to her w/ that bulb being so strong - so the 12-15 inches is a good distance for her --

Does this look better? It’s 18 inches tall so the basking spot look approx 12” away

As long as it 12-15 inches your good-- your basking bulb is over the hammock?

For now. I haven’t had a chance to spot check the temps yet

Ok you need to take a digital probe thermometer place on the hammock wait 10 minutes get your temp- guns do not work on hammocks
