eye irritation

hey guys, I had a question for anyone who might know. My 7 month old Translucent Leather has had an eye irritation for a while now. I use a small syringe with a saline solution and clean it 2-3 times a day, and I was told to put small amounts of neosporin on the outside of his eyelid. after I rinse and treat it, he looks fine, opens his eye and everything, but if I miss a wash, it gets a little crusty looking and sometimes he wont open it...it almost looks like his eyelid is sore. I have checked for retained shed/skin and don't see any, I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions...Thank You!!

Hello,

What type of lighting are you using?
I would use an antibiotic eye ointment instead of the neosporin. That is a great ointment, but not specifically designed for eye use so it could be keeping it a little irritated.
I would continue with the saline wash daily, to keep it clean. Are you using solid substrate or loose substrate?

he was under a exoterra solar glo 125w MVB. I thought that was maybe causing the problems because I spoke to the breeder I got him from and he wasn't under MVB's there, so I switched him to a regular 100W incandescent bulb with a 10.0 UVB bulb(tube type flouro) he has no substrate in his enclosure.

Hello,

No the Solar glo MVB's are very weak, so unless it was 6 inches from him I don't think it is that particular light.
How is his eye looking today?

It looks pretty good today, but this has been an ongoing battle for a few weeks...I received him from the breeder in a bag and he pooped in the bag, so I'm thinking that's what did it. It's not horrible or impairing him from eating or anything, but it must be irritating!! He seems much more active/happy after I wash it up.

Well hopefully this well get cleared up soon for him!
Is it looking any better today?
At least it doesn't seem to bother him right now though. It is hard to get those types of bacterial infections cleared up, they are very stubborn.

I just got done feeding lunch, haha, and his eye looks pretty good today, no crust and he slammed.over 12 decent size dubias haha. I have been ringing his eye even more, so I think it is keeping it a little cleaner.hopefully it keeps improving, thanks for the help!!

He was in a snake bag inside an insulated box, when he was shipped to me...guess I shoulda specified that haha, sorry!!

That is great his eye seems to be getting a little bit better now, that is awesome.
His appetite is good too which means he must be feeling pretty well also!
I hope his eye continues to get better now & will completely clear up real soon for him.

It was a little crusty this morning it wasn't horrible, and he still had it open. I cleaned it out and it looked good for the rest of the day. I cleaned it about an hour or so before his lights went out tonight also. I want to thank you for your help!! you seem VERY knowledgeable about dragons from what I have seen on this site, and I really appreciate your time helping me!!
