Eye Area Shedding and Hiding

This morning Jayden only came out from inside his cork roll long enough to eat some superworms and I saw that he was shedding around the eyes. He stayed in his cork roll all day, and when I pulled him out to check on him about 45 minutes ago I saw that the shed was just barely hanging on, so I gently ran my finger around his eyes and it fell off. It was all around his eyes with a little bit around his mouth, not over his eyes. I don't know if beardie eyes shed like gecko eyes do. He did not have a poo today and he usually has one every day.

I put him on top of the cork roll so he could get some light and UVBs, and after a few minutes he just went down to the floor of his viv and stayed in a corner there, so I picked him up and held him for a while. He seems to have the blahs. Should I be concerned? Does it sound like he's OK? I'm worried about him.

Snakes and many geckos have a special scale on the eye (called a brille or spectacle) that does shed with the rest of the skin. Bearded dragons and other lizards with moving eye lids just shed the skin on the lids, not the eyeball.

I find face sheds give Pepper more grumps - Jayden may just be feeling uncomfortable today, and sort of have the blahs like you say. I'd give him a day or two before worrying to much since he is shedding.

Thank you, Taterbug. He's out of his hide and busy catching crickets right now, so hopefully it was just the face shedding grumps.

If Jayden ever decides to brumate, I'll probably go crazy worrying about him. He's only been here a few weeks, but I love him already. That part was sort of an instant thing.
