Extremely bad smelling tail

Hi all, I got the honey, although I'm not sure if it's the right ones. But only one I could find that looks okay. A little more skin has come loose so worried about that. But monotoring, I will post pictures later.

Now the cream, we are going to hear if the pharmacy has Polysporin, but not sure if they will give without prescripsion, I do have Fucidin cream here, will that be okay? I won't apply without knowing for certain.

ETA: They gave us Nuban which contains Mupirocin 20mg per 1g. So would that be okay?

Bad part, I think the drying up can be because the scales underneath was exposed to quickly, if you feel under the shed its soft and squishy, but turns hard within a day

Hi there, sorry that Queen's tail is in such condition. Although raw honey is an excellent antimicrobial and you can get Neosporin over the counter, that looks like serious tail rot [ initially caused by an injury ] that needs amputated. It may already be traveling up the tail, beyond what you can visibly see and can kill your dragon. Just like the original affected area seemed to come suddenly, the infection was brewing under there for some time before. Contact a few vets to ask about about having it amputated. It can be done pretty quickly and may not cost too much. They should cut about an inch above the affected area into the healthy tissue, otherwise the infection can continue up the tail if the cut isn't made high up enough. But I'd call around to see who might do it for you, preferably an exotics vet but of course but any vet that would be willing should be considered. A cut, a few stitches and some antibiotics and she should be O.K.

If you have a vet on hand who you can afford i'd use them on this occasion. I'm think you are beyond topical treatment. Even if they don't know about reptiles they should have the technical skill to perform the work. Ideally they might be able to get in touch with someone for recommendations on the best medicinal treatment in addition if they can.

Goodness, she definitely had some type of tail trauma at some point.
The topical will help short term, but I don't think that is going to heal without further intervention now. I agree, the infection will spread upwards & can be fatal.
Poor girl, other than that, how is she doing?
Can you find a local vet to help out?

Hi guys, so we did the amputation today, I assisted, never knew reptiles take so long to go under on gas, anyway. We took a big chunk of the tail, hope we got all the infection, she has recovered nicely, has some pain but we will monitor it.

Vet is afraid of partial necrosis as the skin is very tight around the wound, we will see in a few days if the infection is stopped and how she recovers. This was his very first reptile patient so he was super stressed but he did an excellent job. Worked fast and effecient. Will post pictures of her shortly.

Only if she needs more removed, I used to work for the vet so we see each other a lot. It's sad but it doesn't look like it disturbs her. Just a little bit ouch but she is already active again

Good to see that the amp. was done, and hope the poor girl recovers well. ! The vet went high up on the tail so hopefully got up past any potential infection unseen to you. Be sure to keep her tank very clean for sure. Did the vet advise keeping the tail dry [ no bathing ? ] If so, offer water via syringe on her snout. It can be mixed with a bit of baby food squash or a tiny bit of all natural fruit juice if she doesn't take the water alone. Did you put only type of cream on her tail ? If not , you can use the raw honey, but post a pic of the honey jar here, it must say raw + unpasteurized to be of benefit.

Is she eating anything yet ?

Poor girl! Thank you for taking care of her and getting her treatment. Hopefully she will be on her way to feeling better now. They took off a big chunk of tail, hopefully it was enough

He didn't say anything on bathing and all that, but won't to be safe. But will ask him anyway. He did go very high up because most of the tail was a light grey, and not going to risk it and took about 2cm above the grey area.

Didn't put on some cream, but can if needed, is the bactroban which contains 2% w/w mupirocin right? Should I put on some cream a few times a day? She has a very healthy appetite and just about head dived to get to a worm. Unfortunately I don't have anymore Super Worms so will offer some squash and some greens.

The Honey only says Pure Honey, can't seem to get one that says Raw and Unpasteurised.

She recovered very good, she's basking, moving (albeit clumsy) and eating a few super worms thats left.

Oh my, poor girl, she lost most of her tail then. He felt that most of it was infected?
That is too bad, but she should be ok as long as any infection is taken care of. I hope she is feeling much better soon. She looks alert now after coming out of anesthesia, too.
It will take her awhile to get used to her balance issues but she will adapt.
I am glad you were able to get her taken care of & the vet did a good job for it being his first reptile, too.

Let us know how she is doing.

That's good that the bad part of her tail has now been removed. Amazing how well she looked shortly after the surgery. Did the vet put her on antibiotics to be safe?

Wish her a speedy recovery, she sure has been through a lot. Please be sure to keep us updated on her.
