The 47" part is fantastic. It is the 18" height that is the problem if you want to safely use an MVB. That really isnt a big problem because you can use the linear fluorescent instead. Other than that, that enclosure is perfect.

haha no need to go away. I think its great that you are researching BEFORE you get him.

As for the tiles, absolutely, those are the best. Stick with the slate tiles. I personally don't like the idea of permanently putting them in. My preference is to leave them loose so I can take out 1 tile and wash it thoroughly. To me it is much easier than trying to clean the whole thing all the time.

The top is screen correct? If you take the screen top off and get a lamp stand to hang or suspend a deep dome lamp it will work out just fine :) you can provide a MVB over his or her bask and then a 36" stip light across the back of the tank (fish tank style fixture with a regular day temp bulb) and he will be all setup.

The problem with that is that the tank is a plastic. Who knows at what point the heat will begin to give off fumes. An MVB gets incredibly hot and it isnt really worth the risk.

Could you please point me in the right direction of the lighting required as there seem so many different 1s.

Dont really wanna start taking things off.

Thanks again,

Chris.

Im not familiar with the UK bulbs and what they offer so im not sure I can acurately help you in that department but the screen ontop of that exo-terra is removable and with bearded dragons thats best since the screen lids block a siginificant portion of the UV that comes through it.

Even though the tank isnt really very tall you could use one of the UK MVB bulbs (again not sure on the brands and info) But if you didnt want to remove the screen lid and buy a light stand you could simply use the arcadia 12% linear tube bulb in a fixture of your choice and just provide a dome light with a bulb to make the basking temps stay at the proper levels. Im sure others here are familiar with the UK bulbs and could be of better service im just saying that that tank should work out ok granted you setup the bulbs correctly :)

Thanks for you reply but i have moved away from the exo terra as i was advise to small and would only last about 1year. The one regarding using the arcadia 12% was for the Pennine Large Vivarium. http://justvivariums.co.uk/products/pennine-large-vivarium.

I have found this ....... http://reptilekeeping.co.uk/arcadia-reptile-lamp-watts-p-2544.html

Would this be correct ?

So i would now need heating for the basking area ? any ideas ?

Thanks

Chris

The problem with coming into a thread and giving advise comes when you do not read all the way through it. We have already established that he is not getting the exoterra and you are essentially now confusing the poor guy.

The tank he is getting does not have a screen top and an MVB will NOT be safe in that enclosure. As has been discussed, stick with the arcadia 12% linear fluorescent for your UVB source and get a regular incandescent bulb for your heat source.

That is the perfect bulb. As for heating, you can stick with an incandescent household bulb probably around 75 watts. Just be sure the dragon cant get any closer than 6 inches from the bulb.

Be sure to get a digital thermometer with a probe at the end or a temp gun to make sure your temps are right.

http://reptilekeeping.co.uk/eurorep-spotlamp-fitting-screw-p-4291.html (you need a fluorescent fixture. Go to a local hardware store when you get the bulb and tell them you need a fixture for that bulb. That will be cheaper)
http://reptilekeeping.co.uk/arcadia-lamp-reflector-3634-p-1186.html - (don't need this)
http://reptilekeeping.co.uk/arcadia-reptile-lamp-watts-p-2544.html (exactly)

Then i need the light for the basking area.

http://reptilekeeping.co.uk/arcadia-ceramic-compact-lamp-holder-bracket-p-1180.html(good)
http://reptilekeeping.co.uk/zoo-med-basking-spot-lamp-60w-screw-p-3829.html(good)
or
http://reptilekeeping.co.uk/zoo-med-basking-spot-lamp-100w-screw-p-3830.html(too much)

Is that my lighting sorted now ?

Thanks again.
