So I have 2 lids on my bin, one with a screen and a too big solid one that sits on top to keep heat and humidity in and cats out. Well, I found both lids off one morning recently. I found one female just sitting on the edge of the bin and then I saw a large female butt just barely sticking out of my heat register. I tried to grab it and missed. The Air was on in the house so it would be cool in the vent. Am I in trouble? Or do you think it will just die in the duct work somewhere? It's been so warm here, I'm worried that the house would be warm enough for her to reproduce. I'm not sure if she was the only one either. Darn it! Darn the cats!

well supposedly they're non infesting, so i doubt your in any trouble. Plus there's probably not enough food or water for them to survive let alone reproduce. dont worry :)

I've had them escape here and there over the last few years and they always die quickly. Dubia need humidity or access to water, I usually find my escapees dried up in the bathroom.

Wow that's good to know. I just kept thinking of her giving birth in the duct and having dubias all over the house that I couldn't even feed off!! :). Thanks everyone!

I am with everyone else, they will die off soon. So you will be fine. Or you may even catch them huddled up next to the heat by the bin.

You Know I kept my bins outside in the shed because during the summer its basically free heat plus I only use them as feeders I dont breed them. One day I go out and the bin is up against the shed and they are all gone! It didnt take long before I realized I was feeding them cat food and the strays came and ate it haha now I close the doors.

Mine were outside Most of this summer too. Humidty and heat they did great. The breeding has slowed down alittle bit. So I gave em a break & bought some crickets. Dubias sure beat crickets. I'm never going back.
What a summer. We got rain and heat for most of it. Then today it's cold and rainy. Oh well.

I guess you'll find out in 6+ months. I would hope if you have cats, then you have nothing to worry about

Dubia taste good to them too.

I have a similar problem, my dubias escape from time to time, and I have no idea where they escape from. I usually find a couple of them in the morning turned on their back, a few metres from their bin. A moment ago, my beardie went running in the dining room and I heard her chewing. I ran to her because I expected that she ate something not good for her (I have kids that are still messy when they eat), but I saw that she got a male dubia. Where did it come from? Why would dubias (mostly adults) escape? Is it possible my bins are overcrowded? Too hot?

I'm not scared of being infestated (they don't seem to go far), but I prefer to keep all my dubias inside their bins where they can reproduce...

Do you have packing tape around the top of your bin on the inside? That and the lid should pretty much keep them all in there. i've watched the dubias try to climb it, and they just turn around or fall down.

just make sure that the packing tape is securely stuck and the edges don't stick up at all. i inadvertently killed a few nymphs because some of the tape was sticking out on the bottom side. a few nymphs climbed right under the tape and got stuck and died :-(

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
