And he did wonderfully!!!! All the kids washed their hands with hand sanitizer, and I walked around and let them all touch his back. Then I held him up and told them all about beardies, where they come from, and as the students are learning about the food chain, where they are in the food chain. I told them about proper husbandry (I HAD to throw that in, cant teach THAT enough! LOL) especially when several students said they wanted one. I also directed them to this website and got a promise that NO ONE would get a beardie without first learning all about how to take care of it from HERE first! LOL

Eragon then showed off how he eats dubias, and the kids oohed ahhhed and "EWWWWED" LOL....

He stayed in his happy colors the whole time, and even let several of them hold him (of course with mommy CLOSELY hovering LOL) It was a wonderful experience, the kids AND the TEACHER were enthralled, and we just had the best time!

Next we showed off the Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches! The teacher handled them, we got to watch them eat, and they hissed a few times too!!!! I taught the kids how they make their hissing sound, and told them a bit about them. Again, they were just glued! LOL

I dont have pictures, I didnt have any way to get them, but it was just a fabulous day!

HUGS!

That's great!! It's so important for us to educate the public about beardies and other reptiles. Especially kids. Kids absorb everything they hear. :blob8: Kudos to you for preventing new generations from turning into impulse-buyers who keep their beardies in 10-gallon tanks! I've asked my local elementary school about taking Cu into my brothers' classes, but they said no. "Too dangerous". Cu wouldn't hurt a mouse! (I only wish she would!) I'll have to ask about Budo. Now, if they say that he is too dangerous, I will laugh.

I am so happy it went so well for you and Eragon! I just took our beardie Cholla to my son's 1st grade class this week and we visited the kindergarteners as well. 1st grade was learning about habitats and she fit right in the desert habitat! They loved her, and the teacher's (who weren't too keen on getting too close) ended up petting all over her and thinking she was the coolest. Thanks to this website, I knew about making everyone sanitize their hands and I gave some information about how she was a captive raised beardie and the differences between wild and captive. I also did like you Sandi, and when they started talking about getting one of their own, had to tell them that they are not a throwaway pet, they take alot of hard work and time...you could see the little wheels in their heads turning, LOL.

I can't wait to bring Brutus to my dad's school for a little lesson. He's still getting used to other people, but maybe in the fall he'll be ready! Yay!

He'll probably do fine now. I took in a 7 month old, an 8 month old, and a 2 month old all in at once and they all did fine. Of course the 2 month old tried to escape a few times but the other two just kinda hung out and were eyeing all the kids.

My father teaches in an inner-city school, and the kids can be a handful sometimes. We're gonna wait til Brutus is older and more used to meeting new people, and my dad can decide on the best-behaved group of students. I don't want a scared dragon running away from me in a classroom! hehe.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
