Hello
I am writing this to hope prevent anyone from making the same mistakes i made.
Fatboydadragon was going to be 2 yrs old this Thanksgining.
He was 2 months 7 inches long when we bought him.
He started out in a 20 long ,7 months later a 40 gallon breeder .at 14 months a 4x2x2 crossfire.
He was a citrus dragon bright yellow with orange beard and markings/
I mounted his 100SB MVB and 75 watt flood on top of his cage .
I cut 2 circular recesses in top of cage and stapled 1 /2 inch hardware cloth
inside for the lights to sit on.
Well this was a great idea i thought but this put his basking platform about 12 inches
tall to get the right temps and get him within 14 inches of MVB bulb.
I did this by stacking landscaping rocks on top of each other.
For vents i used the stainless 9x14 on the sides.
Ocasionally Faboy would try to Jump up at the vent closest to basking platform.
Dont know why he did this , i assume he thought the stainless vents were windows
and a place to escape.
3 days ago Fatboy was full of himself and tried this again,
This time he fell on his head to the tile floor.
2 days later he died .He was a very healthy dragon .We assume the bump on the head
caused his death.
If you have a basking platform on slate tile please put towels or them fake plant vines
around the platform to cushion the fall.
I am going to change out the stainlees vents with colored vents in hopes of preventing an
accident from ever happening again.
