Enclosure complete

here it is my first custom enclosure....NOT 1 item bought from a pet store...except the half log which was given to me...but my goal was not to buy overpriced from the likes of petmart/co. The total cost was about 100 or the enclosure and 15 for decorations , yes 15bucks...main source was second hand stores and i got my drift wood from mother nature her self..*yes i cleaned and baked everything.

That is to not say this was done without error, some you might not see in the photos. 1st , the plexi glass i got are too thin for the hinges. Secondly i stained the wood after everything was together, bad idea. 3rd , i did not have a jigsaw so i hand cut those squares and they are far from perfect...i also would of loved circle vent in the back!! But I am very impulsive went i want stuff and i work around anything to get it done asap so it doesnt always come out perfect, but Socrates loves it...and i dig it too.

1 other issue I have is the basking light is making the top of the cage hot as well..i put spacers but no help. I am still trying to perfect the temperatures as they are still a little hot, the basking temp is fine *102F...but the cool side is still sitting at around 90 when it should be 80.

So without further ado..here is Socrates house!

Nice Viv. I am having same problem as you with the cool side getting too hot though as well unless basking is under 100 F. If it goes over 100F my cool side gets from 85-90 F. Anyone have a solution for our problems??? lol

What watt bulbs are you using for both basking/coolside?
Are either of you having to use the coolside bulb to bring temps up on the basking side?
If so, have you tried a higher watt basking bulb and an energy efficient or lower watt bulb on coolside?
I know this sounds easy and logical, but sometimes it just takes a little tweaking to get the temps just right.

BTW... very nice viv! You did a beautiful job on it! :D

I am using a 40W crystal clear house bulb. 60W got too hot. I moved the basking spot up 1 tile... haha but it was getting too hot. Im thinking it was because the AC was not on those couple days though now because my temps are not getting hot enough. i will try adding the tile again under his basking spot today after work and see how it goes. Gonna have to get a dimmer in the near future for when my apartment temps change.

Are you using the clear bulb for basking or coolside? If for basking, it needs to be a bright white bulb, to protect your beardies eyes from the uvb.

Sorry SuperNinjaMonkey! I don't mean to take the topic away from your new viv! Just trying to help squirell out!

Sorry SuperNinja Monkey didn't mean to steal thread just noticed we were having the same issue and thought we could both get help at the same time instead of starting another thread.

I have a reptisun 10.0 for UVB and 40W crystal clear household bulb for basking spot heat. Here is a picture of my set up. Im just gonna assume my temps got crazy because I didnt have the AC on for a couple days and it got pretty warm in my apt as well.

Where can you get those UVB light fixtures that you just put inside the cage and whatt do you use to attach to the wall or something? Because I have the fixture that you just put on top of the screen but now I heard that the screen filters out most of the UVB rays??

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
