My bearded dragon is really sick and he went limp in my hands just a few moments ago....He snapped back to life but he is still trying to throw up. Has his mouth open and he seems alive. I don't know what to do. He went to the vet earlier today and she gave him a shot of something and now he has thrown up and pooped tw...ice. She thinks he may be impacted and is having trouble passing whatever is stuck. I stuck him in the bath around 6:45 ( about 45 minutes ago) and then he drank a little opened his mouth and kind of threw up then he went limp. SO limp I could lay him on his back and I thought he was gone but then he jerked and scared me half to death. He is now in his cage with his mouth open making the vomiting face and nothing is coming out. Called the vet she said to keep him under the heat and call her in the morning....What else should I do?

Hello,

Oh geez, I am sorry for your loss.
Do you happen to know what medication was given at the vets?

Not exactly and I think that may have killed him. We also had another sad thing happen with our tortoise last night....he died at the vets. Double trouble. *sigh* I have never had this happen before....I cried for a while. I only had the both of them for about a month but its still sad. Its like gosh im 22 years old and I have a hard time losing a lizard....what a nerd.

I'm sorry for both of your losses... But are you going to bring this to the vets attention? I would be outright furious...

I told the Vet the minute he started acting funny and she said just to set him under the heat lamp and call her if anything changes. 20 minutes later he died. He would never had made it back to the vet since she is 45 minutes away. I felt bad and she said she would give me a free autopsy so she can educate herself on this and also so I can have piece of mind. I don't know I kind of want her to but then I don't its just sad and the thought of her cutting him up makes me cringe....but it would help her out alot....ugh so hard. I am not sure if it was the shot she gave him or the ffact that things got moving and then got stuck to the point something inside bursted....im just beside myself...I am so glad it wasn't Pip or Zippy I think I would have had to call off work for them....I am so attatched they are so loveable.

I understand about the necropsy. I found out with Redrock, if you have it done, they don't release the body, except to someone who will cremate him. If that's what you want, that's o.k., but it's hard to bury ashes. I guess you can, my brother had his son cremated (Sam was 20) and they buried him.

I would think it would be a better idea to have the vet look at him, even though i understand your mindset. I can't help but think though that if it was the shot or something that caused it or maybe something new that could help others. Just a though I'm sorry to hear how it happened I'm sure it wasn't easy I though.

I decided I am going to do it. I dunno how much she will get out of him since he has been sitting in his cage not cold....probablly decomposing....poor guy I see his tail sticking out from the towel and I wanna cry or just pretend he is still alive....like he is sleeping....Its just quite awful...I have never had a bearded dragon die before this is my first one...I will be beside myself when Pip dies....I think my world will stop....

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
