Emergency Items through Amazon Prime

Reading all of the ER topics is crazy. I am so glad we have a community here to help those in serious need and of deep concern. What a wonderful thing this website has to offer! Proud BD.org member

Alright so I am looking for some input on this little idea I had. It was sparked while posting on SilverGravity's thread about a heroic rescue of their class pet Steve who was extremely malnourished and on a fast road to MBD being kept under the conditions that it was. And of many others who have posted and absorbed the recommendations of others on this site who have ordered lights, bulbs, supplements, nutritional meal replacements, or even accessories...and it usually ends with...."I just have to wait until the items come in...." Which, depending on the site can take anywhere between 7-16 business days and maybe even more. Sometimes, when a Beardie is in trouble, we don't have that long to start treatment.

Amazon Prime is expensive, and if I had all the money in the world there wouldn't be an unfortunate animal walking around anywhere on this earth. .. .. .....But I don't.. What I DO have is $100 a year to get Prime and I would love to figure out a way to help others get their items quickly.

Basically, what i'm looking at is a reimbursement type deal...I guess through PayPal as that is the only thing that is secure and reliable that I can think of. (Once again, the gears are still turning here, so this is just a bunch of thoughts laid out). (1)Send me a link of what you need. (2)Send payment through PayPal. (3)As soon as the money clears, I place the order(this is simply to save my butt and make sure I have the money before purchasing through my own pocket)..Anyone know how quick PayPal works?? That matters in this situation. (4) Just let me know that you have received item without issues! If items need to be returned it is an easy fix to send you label.

That is basically all I have so far! I hope this isn't some fantasy land idea I am having as I think this would really help some people out.
Please, I welcome any ideas/improvements!!!!!

That's very generous of you. Just be sure you know what you're getting into, some people will take advantage of someone's good intentions. I've used Paypal a lot and have for at least 7 years. The money transfer is instant. You must have a confirmed address and you pay either through your bank acct. or Credit Card, or you can link both. Once you're approved [ it doesn't take long ] you are ready for business. Just follow their rules and you're good to go.

I'm in Canada so I don't think I can take advantage of your generous offer, but others closer to you may.

Thanks for your reply guys. And yea that is why I would need the payment cleared before I would order the item for them.

SpacialCoogs, didn't think about that, I don't think Prime works for international shipping. Guess it would only work for those in the US

The PayPal thing seems like it'd be good. I will make an account and check it out. Since it is pretty instant, there won't be much of an added delay between the buyer sending money and me ordering it, so it is actually worth it.

When you pay for anything with Paypal, there are 2 options to choose. One is that the money is for goods and services [ which includes live animals and anything you purchase ] or as a gift, like to send money to family + friends. If you're sending money as a gift to someone there's no charge. If you're making a purchase, there's a small percentage charged,....I think it's 3% [ you can check to be sure ] That's the option you will use according to their terms. You'll want to do everything according to the terms/ rules of both businesses.

Hmm I was hoping it wouldn't charge because now I would have to add on the 3% on to the total, which I guess would beat normal shipping costs anyway.

It seems like you cannot receive money through the friends and family gift thing? Or I would just go with that.

Just an FYI to fellow Canadians...Prime is definitely available to Canadians via Amazon.ca. it's under $80, and worth every penny. PayPal is instant here too...again, totes worth it. I have both...also, 2 day delivery sometimes ends up being one! I love Amazon...

I could help out on the North of 60 side of the border. I'm Atlantic (NB), but that wouldn't affect shipping...if it's prime, it's free ?

this is an interesting idea...I use paypal and the online stores usually ship the item the very next day, because the pay is instant. Paypal has no control over how soon an item is shipped, because that is up to the dealer who you purchase an item from. When ordering some item, the dealer site usually has several shipping options to chooose from, including overnight delivery. (at a substantial charge) I have never been charged by paypal to use it...maybe they charge the stores, though?
