Eggs...Please help!

I've posted this in the breeding forum already, but I need immediate help, so have posted here too, thanks in advance.

Hi all,

My female bearded dragon, who last year had a "hysterectomy" which we payed £250 for, has just laid eggs!

We think there may have been a possibility that she has mated with our male bearded dragon as we let them on the floor together.

She has only laid 6 eggs - she has meant to have had her ovaries removed though, and I definately saw one, so she may only have one ovary, how many more do you think there is? She appears to have stopped laying, but obviously we're not sure.

We've got her in a make shift lay box for the time being and the two eggs which we believe are viable in a make shift incubator at 84F.

Please provide any information that you can. We're rather worried here!!

Hi Nikki,
If she has 1 ovary still she can produce eggs.
If she isnt trying to dig anymore, get her into a long warm soak.
Dust her food with calcium every feeding this week, and let her eat all she wants.
She may not be done laying so keep a sharp eye

They were meant to remove all of her ovaries and tubes at the vets last year - so don't know what happened there!!

Well they missed something...lol
let her dig and lay. she isnt done. Just let her do her thing. When she goes to bury the eggs she is pretty much done.
As far as the eggs incubate them at 84 to 86 degrees. In about 4 to5 days turn out the lights and shine a bright flashlight on the eggs If you see red veins or spots you have fertile eggs. then its a 50 to 65 day waiting game.

Hello!

Wow, what a shocker that must have been. They obviously did not get both ovaries, or, there were some eggs left in the colon or somewhere else that developed. Probably not though, I have heard of this happening before.
So, you should call the vet & ask for some money back or have him redo whatever he missed!
Let us know how she is doing.

Dizzie has gone to bed now, it's 11pm here! She didn't lay anymore, but was still digging, so maybe more tomorrow.

I phoned the vet, he said there's a 1 in 1000 chance that the other ovary grows and begins working, and it happened to Diz! They have said they will re-operate if we have any problems at their expense. I don't want to give her an operation for the sake of it, because that'll stress her out.

The strange thing is, we think that 2 of the eggs may be fertile! Missed that one!

Hello Nikkie,

Yes, I agree. The other ovary could have grown while as the vet said it was a VERY slim chance indeed. Go figure! :roll: She just had to be the 1 in 1000 chance, didn't she?
Hm, that would be something if one was fertile. Good grief. I wonder how many more she will lay before it's all over with?
