Hi all,

We got 2 new beardies the other day, we've been told that they're male and female, however, i'm pretty sure that they're both female, I may, however, be wrong.

The female has laid eggs...29...Most don't look any good at all, they were laid with dents in, I think this is because she was standing all over them. But some are round, and most are white. Is there any definite way right now to know if they're good or not? Or do I have to wait a week to do the candlelight test?

Also, apart from trying to get her to eat a pinkie, giving her extra supplements and food and baths more often, is there anything else I can give her or do for her now she's laid? She seems very underweight for her size, I believe she was being underfed at her previous home.

Thank you all,

Nikki

Unless its obvious from the get go that the eggs are duds, time is the best way to tell.
I dont know if you are housing the dragons together or not, but I would reccomend seperating them.
The male will continue to try to breed the female, not giving her time to recover.
In about 21 days she may lay again.
As far as what to do for Her. Feed her all the greens and BUGS that she will eat. Dont bother with the pinkies. In the long run they do way more harm than good.
Give her extra soaks to rehydrate Her and dust her bugs once per day for about a week, then go to every other day.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not housing the dragons together, but the previous owner was.

Thanks,

My females are constantly breeding each other... and yes they are females, both have layed fertile eggs. When they get in the mood, they don't care! They just breed each other... it's quite comical but annoying at the same time. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

My point originally, if you have a small LED flashlight, just put it up to the eggs and you should be able to tell if they're fertile pretty easily. Infertile eggs have a solid look, like the inside is all milky. Fertiles, you can see the little circle and they look clearish inside. I guess it's easier to tell when you have seen them both and know the difference already. Fertiles seem to have a more consistent shape too, while infertiles look more like a foot ball most of the time.

I'm sure this post is absolutely useless to you but you never know... Cheers!

Sorry, run that one by me again?!

Your two females, have bred with each other, and have produced fertile eggs? Is that possible?

Both dragons in the tank were female, i've had this confirmed by a vet now. The eggs are soft yet hard and they have no consistent shape, they're like dented, but if you touch them the dent will come out, i've looked using a torch and the inside look redish pink...Please tell me these aren't fertile eggs!!

2 females cannot produce fertile eggs.
Now a dominat female can cause the other female to lay infertile eggs by going thru the motions of breeding.
The eggs are slugs from what your describing and I would just dispose of them before they stink.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
