I'm struggling with what to use for the top of our 40B tank. 
My wife is against leaving to the top open for fear of our little guy jumping out at some point.
We have a screen we bought at Petco but it is hinged lengthwise and the hinge blocks a lot of the light. We are using a 160w PowerSun with a deep dome and a lamp stand. When the lamp is elevated above the screen a bunch of light reflects off the screen and the hinge.
So has anyone ever used white egg crate? This is what I'm talking about - http://www.eplastics.com/Plastic/Lighting_Diffusers/W-EGG-375X2X4 and they sell it at Lowes and Home Depot.
I was thinking we could just lay a sheet of it over the top of the tank and then I can build a frame for it at some point if I want to .
