Just had a quick question for someone who has bred dragons before. I finally decided to put two of my dragons to start a small breeding porject of my own together and as soon as they were put together, it happened almost right away soI was happy about that. Just wondering if they will eat when they need to, or will the male just keep pestering the female and neither will worry about eating. I can seperate them for parts of the day if need be, and it has only been a few hours since this happened but I couldn't find any answers on this and wanted to know before hand. Thanks to any who answer. :D

Once the deed has been performed a couple times, seperate them and spoil your girl rotten, extra greens, crix, roaches, and phoenix/horn/silkworms and give extra supplements.

I really hope you did your homework, judging by your question I highly reccomend re-reading your information as this is pretty basic information. Best of luck.

You should permanatly seperate your 2 Dragons. The male will continue to breed your female regardless of she is already gravid or not.
The result will be too many clutches to close together. The result of that will be a dead female.

Of course I have done my homework. I do not mean to sound rude, but this is why I think so many people don't ask questions earlier because they are afraid of getting responses that treat them like children. So yes I have read everything I possibly could, talked to breeders themselves about their experiences, and ask any questions I could have had pretty much except this one. My question was not when should seperate my male and female, my question was if they do not eat within the few days they are put together, would it be best to seperate them so that they could eat, or just let them go? I have read plenty of opposing statements online from god knows the sources, so I thought I would come to this site which I have found quite useful over the years to get one final opinion and instead I get people telling me I better know what I am in for. Before this gets off topic and probablt rude, thanks to the one who answered and thats it.

Hey, I merely suggested that you re-read your sources as there is a LOT of information to cover and absorb. Leaving them together will simply stress your female and there is no reason to do so after copulation occurs. You can do everything right and still wind up with problems or a dead dragon, which is a very crappy ordeal I can tell you from personal expierence.

This is the reason that I only leave my male and female together for a few hours at a time instead of housing them together. So that there is no competition for space and food. YOu still get the same desired effect. So yes I would suggest separating them for the purpose of feeding then reintroduce. Good luck.

Thank you. Those were much better responses where I didn't feel like I was being treated like a child. I have spent the last year and a half researching planning getting funds together to do this and I finally have it all in order. I have heard many owners say that you should leave them in for a few copulations but I witnessed a successful one as soon as I put her in with the male. If you think it is necessary, I will take her out today and put her back in tomorrow to relieve some stress. Thanks for responses

If you saw them connect already there is no more need to put them together.
If you dont house them together for days at a time theres no need to worry about feeding competion.

So you are reccomending since I saw the copulation right away, that they have bred and they do not need to go together again? I seperated them this morning and they are back in their spearte homes again. Male is still black bearding a little though. lol. thanks for the help.

That's it. He will be a little extra spunky for a few days.

Just keep an eye on your girl, she should be noticeably bigger in 10-14 days, give or take. If not you can then try again. If he's trying, and she's not giving it up, your chances are pretty good, keep us posted. And patience grasshopper!

Yah I heard all females are different and I give my dragons the best of care. handled everyday and are very friendly and I make sure to keep an eye on usual and unusual activity for them and I even have growth charts and other records I've kept pretty much since the day I got them. I will make sure to keep an eye on her to make sure there is progress and so far so good, both are eating and drinking in baths and I will be ordering their favorite hornworms soon so that I will have some big juicy ones ready for my female during her lay if I am lucky enough. I guess I can give some to the male as well for his effort. lol. Thanks everyone and yes patience is a virtue! lol :blob8:

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
