eating slowing down

Not my 1st rodeo (but never had a healthy BD either), but wondering when your BD's reached 1 yr. of age if their eating slowed down.. it's been off and on as far as a huge appetite.. nothing odd or unusual so not worried about an underlying health issue, but Crixus has slowed down on live feeders.. weight staying the same.. is this normal?? Also, we've not had a shed in months and either than her head I don't see one approaching anytime soon.. TIA BD.org posters..

Yes, they definitely slow down on live feeders once their primary growth spurts are finished. Shedding slows down pretty dramatically as well.

It could also be some "winter slowdown" that you're experiencing too.

Ha I was actually asking the poster above me. My beardie Lemon has low appetite and hardly any bowel movements. So I think our beardies are experiencing their first brumation.

SOOOO paranoid about the brumation thing, my last beardie was in acute kidney failure while I thought it was brumation this time last year so even if there are no outward signs I'll be keeping a close eye on Crixa's weight.. how old is yours??

She is 10 months old this month. If you are that worried about brumation, take her to your vet for a checkup.

I am keeping an eye on her and my BD vet is just up the road if I need him.. prob. just a normal behavior that comes w/ age progression.

We're going through the same thing. Toa is 10 months and has all but stopped eating feeders and is sleeping more. He's got plenty of reserves so I'm not too worried yet. Seems to be that time of year.

As far as reserves go, Crixus is and always has been petite in build so I'm hoping that she doesn't decide to brumate as I'll be pretty concerned although I do realize if brumation does happen weight loss shouldn't be an issue regardless as metabolism slows naturally.. guess we'll all be watching and waiting.. :wink:

Lemon is pretty fat but she hasn't eaten more than a few greens in the past few days. But like you said they should adapt to brumation naturally.

I would assume they would be able to adapt. My herp vet suggested feeding him less during the winter anyway, so I guess Toa knows what Toa needs.

This was Toa's response to me trying to feed him.
