East Coast: what are you doing to prepare for Sandy?

I'm just curious what you guys are doing to prep for power outages and cold beardies?

I'm in central VA and if it hits us like the last one I can expect 7+ days of no power. Very concerned for my babies. I've bought hand warmers but I'm wondering if/how I can feed my guys as well.

We're in upper NY and have a small generator on hand as well as a case of handwarmers. We also have assorted baby food which can be digested easily rather than worrying about using feeders.

We also have village water although we live in the outskirts so at least we know we will have water available.

I live in PA, we got plenty of water and I just bought crickets and collards today.. but mabie I should go down to sheetz tomorrow and see if they have any kind of baby food.. wich I doubt they will.. but that's the only store around here open on Sunday.. all the others are a good half hour to an hour away..I also have some dry dragon pellets as well. I just called my hubby and asked him to buy some handwarmers for a "just incase" thing.. not sure if he will or not.. got his voice mail. Our stove is hooked up to propane.. so I guess we can still use that if the power goes out.. to heat stuff up with.

Have the normal day to day supplies, but if power goes out wont have any heat so idk what to do or how long dragons can go without food.

If you do get hand warmers, what do you do, just put them on their back?

Other than getting a few hand warmers and extra worms and crickets, nothing besides that. Though, like I had just posted in another thread,it won't be hitting anywhere by me in central Suffolk, thank goodness.

the dragons will be fine with no heat for a while. but, if you're going to get handwarmers, i'd suggest buying the reptile shipping warmers, they last longer cost less and don't get to hot, can get 40 hour ones and 70 hour ones, 40 hour ones are a buck a piece. but really, your dragon will be fine with out it

This confuses me because dragons need heat to digest food because if they dont have the proper heat it either won't digest properly or will rot in their stomach yes? So i don't see how they'd be fine. How long is a while, because a 2 days could be a while on somebodies standards, or it could be a week. Sandy is supposed to be worse than Irene.

sandy is all hype to get people to spend money. we're talking if the power goes out, how long would that be? even if it were for a week, the dragon would just go into brumation and be fine, don't feed it.

Some hand warmers can get VERY hot so you would need to wrap the hand warmer up in a thick wash cloth or small towel, then wrap your beardie up with that. The pkg on the outside of the warmers tell how hot they can get, some say 140 degrees so you certainly wouldn't want those.

The days and nights really aren't that cold yet so as troyncindy said, you may not need the warmers. But, if you felt the need to feed them a little baby food, you could lay them on the wrapped up warmers for a while to help them digest. I personally wouldn't feel right about not feeding my beardies for a wk if they were awake and confused. We also have a generator and also small propane tanks in case we lose power in the winter time. The propane heaters kept our living room in the 70's the last time we used it.

It's hard to say how bad this hurricane is gonna be yet, will have to wait & see but a good idea to be prepared just in case.

i have food for them. we have pedialyte.
i'm going out today just to get a few essentials for us, so baby food will be included.

and i'll look for handwarmers.

but in my experience of hurricanes - unless you live along the coast or in high flood areas, the only thing people need to be concerned about is power outages.

why people are buying up things like it's the end of the world i will not understand. supermarkets have their own generators, so if i absolutely need to get something i can go there. they just lock up their freezers and move most of the dairy stuff into the back fridge. but they stay open.

last year we didn't loose power. some friends did for about a week.

and i can always pack up my dragons and go to a friends house.

If the baby food has disappeared from the shelves, don't forget, you can always make your own. Mothers were mushing up food for their children long before Gerber ever hit the shelves. A food processor and a little water added to the food, and you're good to go.

Good thoughts and prayers for the people in the path of this storm, especially the people on this board.

I have hand warmers and some pellet food for the outage. Will check how hot these warmers are supposed to get. Moving one of the beardies to smaller cage because his window may be struck by a tree. Hope we fair better than what they are saying. I am in southern Maryland. We did not lose power during Irene, so I am staying hopeful.

I'm praying that I won't end up losing power for any length of time, but if I do, I hope my babies will sleep through it. Can't relocate to my parents' because they're next in line for the hurricane to pass through (central NJ).
But just in case they don't and end up getting cold, I am a walking heater and plan on snuggling with each one under my warmest blanket until they're nice and toasty, then wrap them up in their blankies until they get cold again.
I also have a couple jars of baby food on hand, in case they get hungry. Or worse case scenario, since opened jars of baby food need refrigeration, there's always the old reliable cheerios

I'm not doing anything to crazy, just making sure I have heat packs available. I have small Styrofoam coolers to put them in for insulation if it gets that cold. Giving them a big meal tonight and I do have some baby food in the pantry (I always do) if I need it. I hope things don't get that bad, I don't think they will. If the power goes out it'll will be freezing here though, supposed to go down to 35-40 (f) here.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
