Hello all!
My Beardie, Sebek is a 8 1/2 in. long male. My wife and I bought him at a reptile convention in Pensacola, Fl this past Oct. The breeder did not know exactly how old he was, but it wasn't more than a few (2-3) weeks. It is now early January, while he is doubled in size, he appears to be going through Brumation at the age of 3 months??
For the past 3 weeks or so, he has remained hiding in his normal sleeping spot. Not basking but half way crawling out every other day to get some light on the ground of his tank, half way hidden under on of his crawling sticks. He will sometimes go a day and a half without eating. (as in he just turns away and closes his eyes from food and will not eat it). **We hand feed w/ forceps or at least place the feeders on the ground close to him** When he does eat, instead of his usual 15-30 Phoenix Worms... its 5-8 (Medium size) and I have every 3-4 days gotten him to eat a small piece or two (the size of feeder pellets) of Butternut squash.
Of course as first time beardie owners my wife and I are a bit worried about our little guy.
Every bit of research we have done has just pointed it to being normal for a 12+ month old.
Granted, he hes not been to the vet yet. Seeing how he poops only every 3 days or so.. its been bad timing trying to get a sample to the local Reptile vet on the days they are actually here.
Bottom line... Is this normal? Should we be worried? How best can we care for him at this time?
Before all of this, gut loaded crickets (1/4 in) were a major part of his diet along with the worms. Now we only give him worms till this is over.
His Basking temp is 103 F
Shade Temp of 73 F (night)-77 F (day)
20gl Tank for now w/ pre-fab desert materiel mat from ZooMed floor, grape vine climbers and a foam type magnetic rock set up for a basking rock.
