Duke has PINWORMS! Will he need the meds right away?

I took Duke to the vet yesterday for his annual exam and his poop check was positive! Duke has pinworms, and my dad can't pick up the medication until sometime this week. I can't drive, so I can't go and they're closed today. Will he need the medicine right away? Also, what can I do to help him now? Thanks!

Unless he is sick from the worms, I don't think waiting a few days for meds will hurt anything. I'd just keep your daily routine the same, I don't think there is really anything you can do that would help with the worms.

Thanks for the reply, I'm really nervous! Duke seems to be sleeping more and laying down and sort of closing his eyes now and then. Is this a symptom of the worms? He just started acting like this a month or so ago. Also, he doesn't eat as many worms as before, which might also be a symptom. But when I take him out of his tank, he'll run around my carpet. I don't think it's an emergency though. I'll tell my dad to get them as soon as possible. Is there such thing as a bad pinworm medication? Like, there's good and bad types of UVB so are there bad types of worm meds?

Yes, worms could make him act like that but I agree, its not an emergency but should be treated as soon as you can.
I believe the meds you need is panacur, under no circumstance let the vet give him Ivermectin, it can be fatal to reptiles.

Can people or other animals in the house catch pinworms? I've had my beardie about 2 wks and have not found a vet yet to get him checked out- I'm just hoping he's okay until I can find one (the idea of worms freaks me out)!!!

I know there is a pin worm mammals can get but I'm not sure if its the same kind that reptiles get. Even if the dragon had pin worms and it is a type you could get, you'd have to eat his poo to get infected

Thanks for the info... It makes me feel alittle better. I've been a bit of a hypochondriac until his poop gets checked (I have been using 2 tee ****s when he sits with me- and he has his own towels, fork to pick up the worms, and I don't let him roam around yet because I thought I could get it if he has it by his little feet walking around on the furniture or floor (lol)... Now I think I can relax a bit! :wink:

The vet says the pinworms aren't really bad yet, so it's not an emergency. I'm sure your dragon will be fine.

i know we're talking about poo.... but i think you made a typo! re-read your post! lol :lol:

and if that's the case, gawd help us all that let our cats and dogs on the furniture and or bed! LOL If my cat/dog had the chance they'd have all 4 paws and bootie all up on my pillow! YUMMY!

I got Duke's meds today, the vet gave me Fenbendazole. I hope that's alright, because I have already given Duke 1 syringe of it.
