I'm at work, and I just checked the tracking...

The Dubias I ordered are at my friend's house as we speak,(where the bins are going to be kept until Jamie and I buy our house) just waiting for me to get over there and.... open the box! :puke:

*shudders*

I'm glad I am out for the welfare of my beardies, or I'd go ahead and have myself commited lol.

First order of business.... Grab one of each size and sex of the little buggers and let them crawl on my hand to get the "oh crap, one just touched me" stage out of the way.

"One of God's beautiful creations. One of God's beautiful creations. One of God's beautiful creations." Repeat this mantra with a Dubia on your hand until you believe!

I started with discoids, tried some dubia and now keep lobsters and discoids. When I was growing up I was always freaked out by the german cockroaches we "raised" in our cupboard and behind the frig (shudder). As I've kept them longer and longer I've begun to appreciate them outside of feeders. The discoids, at least are beautiful creatures on their own. I don't think the dubia are quite so cute, but to each his own.

Some time when you're Googling check out Lucihormetica Subcinta. Possibly my favorite roach in the world as far as appearance goes.

1: Yes I let Jamie read any and all engouraging propeganda...err.... posts... regarding Dubias lol. In the end, the crickets did most of the convincing with their chirping, stinking, and finally... she caught one biting Mushu. All of the testimonies towards Dubias' redeeming qualities helped. (not just her either, I needed some convincing too lol)

2:NEVER! Dubias is as far as I go. Heck, with only two dragons and the leopard geckos, it should be all I ever need!

so I went over and got the dubias into their bins. It wasn't *quite* as bad as I thought it'd be, but it was close. I didn't wretch or anything, but they don't put a song in my heart, either! (maybe some discordant, death metal song or something) I spent a couple hours with the thermostat and the temp gun getting the temps perfect, and filled their food and water dishes, snapped the lid back on and headed home. Easy Peasy.

A side note:

I got these from Theroachguy. Paypal was having issues (had some glitch when I sent the order over the first time) so I had to hassle with them. I forgot about shipping refunds, and other things, and had to change my order on the fly after it was already purchased and paid for. This was later in the day on Monday. Not only did Jason not bat an eyelash at the order change, he remembered an old email he had sent me promising to toss in a sample of smalls for free. I didn't even remember the email, but he reminded me. That, and my order got put in late monday, and arrived early wednesday. 1.5 days. Nice. Anyways... two thumbs up for the man who sent me nightmares. :)

P.S. ten lbs of that chow is a LOT of chow lol. Hopefully it doesn't go bad or anything. I'm trying to make sure to keep it in a cool place and keep it airtight so no mold grows or anything, cause it'll last quite a while methinks.

well if 1lb lasts you a month, then 10lbs, logically, should last me ALMOST A YEAR hahaha. I'm totally fine with having feeders that cost me $20-$30 a YEAR to feed off of. o_O

How many did I get? I got 50 of his adult trio deal, the 150 mixed large deal, and 125 smalls to start feeding from.

so....

~105 adult females
~55 adult males
~150 sub-adults ready to molt and start breeding
and a bunch of tiny ones to feed from while they get busy. Apparently, a couple of the breeders gave birth on the way over too, cause there were several tiny nymphs in that box as well with all the adults.

I got all this with ten lbs of chow and didn't even hit the $150 mark after shipping. (by the way, it would take my two dragons UNDER 2 months to eat that much money worth of crickets)

Yup that should last you for a year... Just wait until the females start producing, and that chow will get consumed FAST !

well if they start producing TOO fast, then when I need more chow, I'll just sell off a crap ton o' nymphs at enough to buy more chow for the breeders. I don't want to make any money off of them, but if they can sustain themselves. I'm all for it lol. It's what I do with my planted tanks. Make just enough sales so that the plants pay for their own fertilizers, chemicals, fish food, etc.

hahahahah, that first post was funny. I hate bugs and worms, but that's kinda how I've been with mealworms and crickets for my BD. I think of it as food for my baby, and he's not going to eat unless I man up and feed him, so I've been...slowly, but surely getting over my fear of little bugs and worms.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
