I was feeding my older beardie, Norm, crickets for the first few months of his life and he always had "normal-looking" but very smelly poos. I thought that's just how they smelled, first beardie and all. Then I tried dubias and he quickly dumped the crickets and would only eat dubias as his staple protein. His poo started coming out in big squishy lumps instead of logs but smelled the same. It's so horrible...the first day he had a poo like that, I had just finished making my absolute favorite cookie in the entire world...no-bakes (with cocoa, peanut butter and oats...) well guess what his poo looked like? Yep. Can't eat a no bake without seeing his lovely presents in my mind!
poo: (he had a normal urate under the clump}
no-bake:
Anyway...flash forward to a few weeks ago, Cass joined our family (about 10-11 inches) and his logs did not smell like much of anything. I started to worry that Norm might have parasites so went to the vet and he had very low counts, was prescribed panacur .30 ml 1/week for three weeks. ( This was also about a week after I got Cass, and he had gotten crickets at PetCo, but I put him right on dubias. Then his normal poo turned mushy too.) That night I gave him the dose, and the next morning woke up to a perfectly normal, non-smelly poo log! Still surrounded by liquid, but the liquid was clear. I have been giving him baths about 3x a week and spritzing on days without baths a few times a day. Am I over-watering him?) But a week later they were back to mush. I tried to give his second dose Monday but he was too smart this time and actually spit out the wax worm after realizing there was meds on it...it flew across his viv and hit the side with a splat and stuck to the glass! I'm not sure how much he ended up actually getting over the rest of the day but I sure tried!
My question: Vet follow-up isn't for a few more weeks, is it ok to try and repeat the dose of panacur or should I wait until next Monday again? Also, should I dose Cass as a precaution?
is it possible that the dubias are causing the change in texture? Everything else is within range...Cass has a 125mvb, Norm a Reptisun 10.0, both are in 40g breeders, basking spots between 102-110 with incline, warm side 92, cool side 81, eating collared greens/dandelion greens as staple win rotating bok choy, red chard, green beans, bell peppers, butternut squash mixed in. Also feed a few mealworms as snacks, or when Norm is being fussy and won't eat at all (when he's shedding) he will only eat superworms.
Thanks!
