well im starting a dubia colony and i am starting rather large. it will be to feed my blue tongued skink and my BD. basiclly i assume the roach colony will get so big i will have more than i need. is there any type of gecko that can eat them? what would be the best type of gecko to get? and what are the general guidlines to keeping them? oh and do you guys reccomend them as pets?
i know this is a bit off topic but i hop someone will help. thanks

I know my leopard geckos love them....and so does my crocodile gecko. My frogs love them, too. Somebody told me that her crested geckos wouldn't eat them.

Maybe you should try to breed some lobsters instead.... I hear more reptiles take to these guys. I know certain species of tarantulas will not eat certain type of roaches if they're not from around where they are found. I think most Central and South American tarantulas will eat the Dubias.

They same way you breed dubias, but they are much more prolific. They have less chitin, and therefore softer exoskeleton, and are smaller and a greater meat to shell ratio. One thing you have to watch out for is: they climb smooth surfaces like glass. You can go over to Proexotics to learn more about them. They also sell bug stop to prevent them from climbing over the bin. It's like a coating you apply on the top inside of the bin all around and when it dries the roaches can't climb over. Just go over and check it out.

Ok thanks. Now I have more questions. Why do more peole seem to want to breed dubia than lobster roaches? Why are dubia so much more expensive than dubia? And on tht site they also do giant hisssing cockroaches, discoid and lateralis roaches. Can I also use these as feeders for my BD? Does anyone hav any experience with these roaches?? Thanks

Let me rephrase sum of that. Why do people wnt to breed dubia more? And why arer dubia more expensive? Sorry about that

they're more expensive because they take longer and eat more food to produce babies and take much longer to mature into breeding female and male. Before they reach adulthood they probably consume a lot more food. Plus a lot of people like them, so they sell them for higher price to make a profit. that's what you're in a business for....

people want to breed dubia more because they are easier to deal with. namely, you don't have to worry as much about them climbing the walls of the tub and escaping.

HMmmm now I don't know what to do. On the one hand lobster would be cheaper as they don't eat as much and they grow and breed faster. On the other hand dubia don't escape so easy(n my girlfriend wuldn like that so much). Plus I know for a fact that my BD absolutely adores them.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
